Popped out in Brixton to stock up, and whilst Tesco had fuck all on the shelves, queues the length of the aisles and twats who can't park, a stroll to Electric Avenue was revealing. All the market stalls and shops are fully stocked - loads of fresh fruit, veg, fish and meat, 2kg bags of basmati rice, bars of soap, trays of eggs and a refreshing lack of panic all round.

Cycling recreationaly could be banned
Let's not make this sound like some sort of attack on our precious cyclists. All recreational sport above a predetermined threshold will likely be banned of Spain and France are anything to go by.
There's a balance to be struck between the benefits of a total ban and the disbenefits of people going crazy unable to exercise.

Thanks for that info, I'll stroll over when I need anything.

My dad is off ICU (not related to cv) and on the general ward but he's noted people in with him are slowing being taken away for isolation - 6 so far and creeping towards him. He had a temperature yesterday. 🤪

Mate who lives up by Brixton Hill said the same. Market stalls and smaller shops all fine with a good selection of bits. He was saying milk was the hardest thing he wanted to buy.

I think if I remove the ‘exercise induced’ part and assume I just have plain asthma then going by how mild my symptoms are and the stuff on the asthma UK website I don’t need to be staying away from work. They are talking about putting us on reduced shifts and stuff so my time at work should be reduced anyway.
I also suspect they’ll be told to shut the building down and send us all home at some point soon. Whether or not we would then get redeployed I don’t know but I’m kinda thinking that remaining as someone who is available for redeployment probably helps to safeguard me getting paid which is definitely a concern.

One of the most stressful aspects of this whole coronavirus pandemic is trying to reply to something on this thread before it's already two pages later.

He was saying milk was the hardest thing he wanted to buy.
Milk appears still to be the panic-buying product du jour for the hoarding morons in the fair city of Ely. They appear to have given up on bread and bog roll for the moment.

The only bread and milk I could find in my local Sainsbury's yesterday was bagels and finest jersey gold-top. Deeeelicious.

Milkman still delivering...

Also bloke on the radio was saying there is more food in this country than ever before cos everyone was stockpiling in case of Brexit supply chain cock-ups. And obvs the supermarkets know from years of experience how much people buy in a week so schedule deliveries accordingly.
So if people weren't cunts it would all be as normal.
Although they are worried about who is going to pick strawberries soon.

When I was at the petrol station stocking up on pizza and wine the two local milk floats pulled in for fuel. Many empty bottles, no full ones. I imagine they're doing a roaring trade at the moment. Good on 'em.

I'm quite surprised that some of you guys can't spot why it's a bad idea to allow people to participate in recreational sport a significant distance from their homes.
Supposed to be having a surveyor over tomorrow on our flat for the buyer.
I could shelve our moving plans.
Is it irresponsible to go ahead and let the survey happen? Arguably it’s only slightly more important than recreational sport or exercise.

I see Tim Martin is continuing to be a total bellend.
'Also on Friday the Wetherspoon's boss said his pubs would stay open, despite government advice to avoid pubs.
Tim Martin told the BBC there would be no pub closures despite the government's advice for people to avoid pubs. "In the early part of the current week, following the Prime Minister's advice to avoid pubs, sales have declined at a significantly higher rate," he said.
But a shutdown in the face of coronavirus would be "over the top", he said.'

Guardian reporting London shut down could be announced in hours.
Government was today actively discussing a new clampdown on London
with pubs, cinemas and gyms being ordered to close to stop the spread
of the COVID-19 pandemic. An announcement could be made in hours, with concern among crisis
planners rising that too many people are continuing to ignore social
distancing advice - making the spread of the virus more likely. The British capital is the target of tougher measures because it has
the highest rate of infection and deaths so far. Debate within
government is continuing about whether non-essential shops - that is
those not selling food or medical supplies - would be included in the
ban.The Government had been considering a formal ban on Thursday and was
braced to announce it - but pulled back.Among senior government
figures there is a deep reluctance to issue banning orders.Officials believe they would have the power to order bans even without
special emergency laws drafted specifically to battle the pandemic.Crisis planners and government advisers have been looking at various
data, such as transport usage in the capital and hospital admissions,
to assess if the pleas made on Monday for people to stay home was
being heeded.Continuing anecdotal evidence of people, especially younger Londoners,
continuing to go to pubs despite repeated pleas has led to government
believing it may have no choice but to issue the ban, which may be
announced within hours. -

It’s not meaningless at this stage because the conversation applies to hypothetical, as yet unimposed sanctions and so is fair game. I’m just venting my personal frustration at not being able to graft at maintaining some workload if I can get from isolation to work isolation without harming anyone on a push bike. Obviously if the general or governmental consensus is that I shouldn’t do that I won’t... just like I don’t do lots of things which are deemed generally inappropriate.
But while it’s conjecture I stand by the logic of my argument.
It’s interesting to hear responses though. That’s why I raised it, because I’m conscious of not making the mistake of being burdensome or selfish.

I feel like riding to/from work is materially different from going out into Kent lanes for a couple of hours (i.e. should be okay, as long as other non-essential work is allowed)

I agree. Sorted. I’ll let Boris know we have a consensus.

I think the problem is with already reduced lung function, if you add pneumonia on top you could be in a bad situation. But the guidelines are just copied from other similar diseases, not actually based on data.
I'm assuming the risk is quite small though as the hospitalisation rate amongst say, under 60s is already pretty low AFAIK, and amongst those who are hospitalised you would assume the vast majority are those with much more serious health problems than mild asthma. And even then not all "young" people will be infected.
So it's most likely a small fraction of a small fraction - wouldn't worry too much.

Yeah. I mean the likely answer would be, not sure yet, take care anyway.

A Couple of points:
UK society construes cycling as a risky thing to do (hence all the helmet crap here). As has been pointed out its less risky than climbing stairs and in some instances walking. So moving to ban to reduce a strain on the emergency services dealing with crashes is crazy. Clearly anyone going out potentially can spread the virus though perhaps less so by cycling instead of walking or travelling on public transport. So while we are still not in lock-down cycling should be encourages.
Secondly, cargo cycle companies will be contributing to delivering stuff to people who really need things (My company is gearing up to this as I mentioned here ). We and other companies I've been speaking to believe that cargo cycle delivery riders will be listed as essential workers for the duration.
Yeah, also i know this thread is moving fairly fast but that's not helped by people not reading back even a couple of posts. The amount of questions that have just been answered that are then asked again is impressive even for Lufgus.
Cycling recreationaly could be banned. Cycling for a key worker to get to work or someone to go to the nearest shop to buy groceries etc, almost certainly not.
