• I’m not particularly worried about the virus itself, more the consequences of it. I’m 57, ride at least 100 miles a week and have just started the couch to 5k thingy, although I’m a bit flabby in places. I get occasional night-time asthma and have an inhaler on standby, and I’m on medication for anxiety issues and so I do get stressed about things a bit unnecessarily, so I’ve been a bit on edge this week. My wife is immuno-supressed due to meds for psoriaric arthritis and so is a bit more vulnerable.

I’ve had a cough/cold for a good three weeks or so now, but it’s productive and not dry. No temperature or sore throat, or aches. I’m not sure what to think tbh, but although I’m still working we’ve split the five of us into two teams, one does 4 days and the other does 3 so we don’t interact. Wife is an NHS behaviour analyst at the Maudsley and is now WFH.

I’ve been getting a bit anxious about the whole infrastructure issue tbh. My anxiety means I do get the odd cold flush and think “shit, what if this gets really bad?” - if London or even the whole county goes on lockdown, then the issue of supplies is going to go one of two ways. It could stop panic buying or it could really scare people into continuing to clear the shelves of everything. We’re all being told to wash our hands but it’s nigh-on impossible to find any anti-bac now.

In the meantime I’m on my day off and and self-isolating in bed with the cat while the wife works in the kitchen as her office. Then I’m gonna risk a trip or two to the council tip and then go for a run, mostly because the wife hates having me around when she’s working or studying :)

  • No need for anti-bac handwash, soap will do

Look after your knees, don’t run too far too fast (like I have, twice)

Stay away from people at the tip

Don’t run out of inhaler stuff

And finally, you’ve done a lot of things right so far and your health gives you a much stronger position to battle it compared to others.

    Stay strong - you’ve got this 👊

  • Yup, all sound advice, thanks! Especially the running bit, although there’s no chance of me running too fast. 40 years of cycling have left me totally unsuited to running so it’s going to take me a good while to loosen them up to a proper length and style.
