No flu yet, though it has been years since I had it properly like this time. Reading the list of symptoms I tick the following boxes
- Fever - check
- Cough - check
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing - if being knackered going up the stairs is this, then check
- Tiredness - check
- Aches - check
- Runny nose - check
- Sore throat - nope
On the other hand this list could be for any old flu, couldn't it?
- Fever - check

I had what I assumed was the flu the week before Christmas. I’ve had full flu a couple of times and the only thing that differentiated it this time was the incredible lung burn and associated cough. It crossed my mind that it might not have been flu. My symptoms were (using your bullet points):
-Fever - check
-Cough - check. Horrible dry burning cough right down in my lungs.
-Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing - if being knackered going up the stairs is this, then check. I was really out of breath going up stairs and left my lungs burning. Was for weeks afterwards.
-Tiredness - check. See below.
-Aches - check. Usual flu type muscle and joint pain that was only really alleviated with codeine and paracetamol. Couldn't move out of bed for 4 days.
-Runny nose - check. Not for me.
-Sore throat - nope. Can’t remember, but I think there was a pretty bad sore throat to start with, which I thought was the start of a cold but which went away and quickly spread into my lungs and was burning.
Why not? Have you had the flu yet this season? If not, hard to say. Impossible to know anyway of course. Fever is much higher than most covid cases as I understand it, sounds more like flu.
