  • Sadly too large for @Tor otherwise I'd be building another bike for her birthday this year - probably a dangerous precedent to set anyway.

  • Down to £65 plus postage now!

  • cos it’s just the frame now - no forks

  • Didn't spot that.

  • Just found your group and thought I'd share: a Donohue (Avanti badged), 753, 50cm, built up with 105, fulcrum wheels, it's got a few k on it now, but it is absolutely bloody gorgeous to use, you could ride until your legs fall off!

  • Hi, I was hoping somebody might be able to shed some light on this frame that I’ve recently acquired as it seems to be a bit of an anomaly in terms of the other Donohue-built Team Brite frames that I’ve seen on the forum. It’s a 23” Brite frame built in 1998 (according to frame no.) using Reynolds 853, however it doesn’t have the usual teardrop-shaped downtube or black forks that appear on other Brite frames. There are no rider name decals on the frame. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

  • I've no way of telling if this is Donohue built or not but I thought this extremely poorly listed Graham Weigh f+f might be of interest to someone on here!

  • You’ll have to excuse me looking half dead (currently riddled with germs from my kids) but I thought I post this up here. Took my Donohue (bought off here) to Newport for the first time last night - first time not riding hire bikes too. Really happy with how it handled itself! Felt pretty great riding my own bike there and it’s good to know it’s as fun to ride on the track as it is on the roads.

  • Brilliant. So good to see you enjoying it!

  • Ha - I don't look like I am in that photo, but yeah I'm really enjoying it thanks!

  • I'm going to get my Donohue repainted at some point in the near future, & I'm keen to keep the original logo style. So I took an image & played around with neatening it up & roughly vectorising (not sure how good that aspect is). Have ended up with some decent quality SVGs which are easy enough to play around with changing colours etc. Figured I'd upload them here in case they're of use to anyone!

  • Were these on eBay a while back? Remember there being a huge dump of blue Donohue training bikes from some velodrome clearout.

  • never had them on eBay.

  • It was Glasgow iirc

  • Sorry, not been on here for a while. Definitely a Donohue, possibly a training bike. Do you have the frame number?

  • Sorry, I need to correct this. Firstly it is a Donohue built frame 100%

However that downtube wasn't exclusively rolled for Graham weigh. It is actually Reynolds tubing that was shaped for them by Donohue and shipped back to Reynolds.

Donohue had been doing this for a while in 853 and 531 millennium and Reynolds asked him to make some for them which he did.

Have a look at his team brite bikes, they are mainly teardrop along with many others on here.

If it's teardrop and Reynolds, fair chance it's a Donohue.

  • ok have a check and update

  • That's fair, & an interesting titbit of information about the process. Do you know anyone of any other brands under whom he/others used that tubing (assuming he was exclusive)?

Also, got my road PD resprayed recently (it being twenty years old, was showing signs of wear). Hot damn is it the best bike I've ever ridden. The perfect balance of speed & comfort.

  • @AlexD loving that Donohue track !

  • Thanks! I’ve been using it a bit on the track and it really is a pleasure to ride. Probably not going to get much use now for a while though, sadly!

  • Hi, apologies for the late reply. Frame no is 4472398. However, I previously referred to it as being 853 tubing when it’s actually 531 Millenium.

    Thanks

  • There's a 58cm Donohue Team Brite with DA for sale on facebook for £250 (not mine). I used to have a 53cm one of these and loved it until it died.
It's in this cyclocross buy/sell group:
