  • Can anyone tell me about the Alu Mega circa 98-00? Have a chance to purchase one, used to own a beautiful Corsa Extra that unfortunately picked a fight with a car, not sure on the whole steel vs alu on vintage cycles. Where did they sit in the line of Merckx's at the time? Thanks

  • Got myself a MX Leader this morning, anyone know what year it is?

  • Nice one! Looks like the last Telekom version. Guess somewhere first half of the nineties as later Telekom changed to Pinarello.

    Merckx Motorola 60cm.

Needs rescuing and returning to a geared bike.

  • reanimation, sorry: # 4 - certainly not 1980, this SSC model was introduced in spring 1981; # 18 - Capri Sonne frames had the CS designation (without a normal serial number), had other (later) SSC, BB cover and lugs; # 21 - "signature" SSC disappeared in the spring of 1981; # 44 - cable guides or cable inside top tube - option from the end of 1984; # 45 - number hanger - option from the beginning; # 123 - 1995; # 199 - 1987; # 269 - 2001 "camo", repainted in EMC, F3523 - 1994; # 282 - this may be the frame used by IWC - VRD - Eddy Merckx in TdF 1980 ...; # 296/298/352 - Team TeVe Blad 1985 "camo" ...; # 380 - 86/87, repainted; # 484 - X = SLX, 4 = 54 cm st (c-c), P = EMC employee identification, 1995; # 495 - unusual cable guides on top tube;

  • frame dating (other than cadre.org, but correct): "without a letter" - 1980; E - 81/84; Z - 84/86; A - 86/88; B - 88/90; C - 90/91; D - 92/93; F - 94/95; G - 96/98; H - 98/00; J - 00/02; K - 02/04; L - 04 /? (there is also the P series for sure). Contest for brave (ie using the cadre.org website): find and show the E-series frame, which is structurally and painted between the series D and F. As a reward, I will answer (almost) every question regarding the EMC framework (steel).

  • New year, new frameset.

  • Nice one. Weinman color scheme? The max tubing is a nice touch. Bet a good polish would make this a stunner.

  • No, Team Kelme 1991 livery.

  • That's beautiful.
I've always wanted a really small MXL. Jealous of you normal size people.

  • Nice one Wim. Some amazing bikes in this thread.

I've not got round to posting my Eddy's here yet, so here they are.
Litespeed built Merckx EX titanium with 10 speed Chorus.

Columbus SLX early Team Panasonic also with 10 speed Chorus

And my most recent addition, the MX Leader, with, you guessed it, mostly 10 speed Chorus, though shifters are Centaur.

  • Fan of the Panasonic. Others are lovely too.

  • Thanks, there's a final one in the pipeline, but I'm not saying any more on that in case I jinx it, as I haven't got my hands on it yet. Much excitement tho, so watch this space ;)

  • I bet that rides like a dream! There's an interesting Kelme couple on MP at the moment.

  • These are waiting to go on the signature Merckx:

  • Haha, that would be great for the miss. WimVDD. ;-)

That bike rides like a dream, indeed. I actually swapped it for my "signature". I didn't ride the latter one, this Max came across and I could work out a swap deal. Me happy, the seller happy.

  • The guy who's selling these Kelme is here just around the corner...

  • Did you swap the complete "signature" against the Max frame? Probably for the best if both bikes get ridden more :)
