Sales at UK restaurants, cafes, and pubs are down 69% compared with
the same week last year, according to stats from retail data company
Tenzo, which monitors sales of hospitality businesses in the UK.
After a week of constant decline, the company said, revenue losses had
already started to translate into closures, with 8% of the sites they
monitored having shut up shop, either temporarily or permanently.
Faced with the prospect of footfall declining further, many cafes and
restaurants are turning to delivery platforms in an effort to keep
revenue up: food delivery apps are some of the only businesses
expected to benefit from the coming downturn.
