Rest of Europe (yeah, I know), public and private schools were closed and the same for preschool. Not sure though, whether private crèches in the UK are government licensed

Can’t see how they can charge when not delivering a service. Nurseries are Ofsted inspected but other childcare situations might be more complex.

Because they have rent and employees to pay and Corona isn't their fault.

We took ours out of nursery last week as a precaution. They sent everyone letters this week indicating they will still open but if they have to close or you take your child out you will still pay the fees unless you terminate the contract and in that case there will be no place for you if / when things get back to normal.

I know people were questioning the value of Dr John Campbell's youtube videos on here some pages ago, but his daily clips will be interesting to look back on as a record of how wild this thing got so quickly. I picked them up a few weeks ago and he has got progressively more frustrated and despondent at how it is all unfolding and the numbers keep increasing. He was flagging up the global threat quite a while back. Also the idea of being proactive rather than reactive.

I get it if we choose to take our child out, but otherwise I can’t see how it’s not breach of contract. They aren’t supplying the service you pay for.

If they keep charging, it's likely in the contract that they can do so.

coronavirus every day as part of a major national effort to boost
testing capacity, the government has confirmed today.

be conducted by Public Health England and the NHS in laboratories,
with the expected surge in capacity ready within just four weeks ...

The UK government has already completed over 50,000 tests. It is
anticipated that, with increased capacity to 25,000 daily, testing
levels in the UK could soon exceed that in China.

Last week, the NHS and PHE increased testing to 5,000 a day and that
number continues to increase. By next week it is hoped we will
increase testing to 10,000 per day.
