Safe to assume that nurseries will shut at the same time as schools?

Dunno. Some are businesses / social enterprises and this will kill them.

Under lockdown until Sept - 6 months?!

Rest of Europe (yeah, I know), public and private schools were closed and the same for preschool. Not sure though, whether private crèches in the UK are government licensed

Govt: "we want to hold off closing schools for as long as possible"
Everyone: "WTAF, we know better, close schools NOW!!"
Govt: "okay, closed until at least Sept"
Everyone: "WTAF, I never saw this coming, this shocks me to my core"
(this is not a serious post, don't be offended)

Russia's been a bit quiet, don't you think?

I guess the govt. will have to step in and pay our nursery fees then, or there will be no nursery to go back to.

My daughter just came home with a letter saying she is now to stay at home indefinitely due to staffing shortages but only applies to Year 8 and 9

Can’t see how they can charge when not delivering a service. Nurseries are Ofsted inspected but other childcare situations might be more complex.
It’s another small snippet of the major economic crisis. -

Don't worry they've got it under control

And then Bright Beginnings will buy all of them up, and fees will shoot through the roof across the board.
Fun times.

Can’t see how they can charge when not delivering a service.
Because they have rent and employees to pay and Corona isn't their fault.
We took ours out of nursery last week as a precaution. They sent everyone letters this week indicating they will still open but if they have to close or you take your child out you will still pay the fees unless you terminate the contract and in that case there will be no place for you if / when things get back to normal.
Merde.

I know people were questioning the value of Dr John Campbell's youtube videos on here some pages ago, but his daily clips will be interesting to look back on as a record of how wild this thing got so quickly. I picked them up a few weeks ago and he has got progressively more frustrated and despondent at how it is all unfolding and the numbers keep increasing. He was flagging up the global threat quite a while back. Also the idea of being proactive rather than reactive.

A rumour from Whitehall. Full lockdown before the weekend. Army being prepared.
-
• #5120
I get it if we choose to take our child out, but otherwise I can’t see how it’s not breach of contract. They aren’t supplying the service you pay for.
I also get the consequences.

Nobody needs fucking rumours

I can’t see how it’s not breach of contract.
If they keep charging, it's likely in the contract that they can do so.

Not trying to beat you over the head with this, just thought you (and others) might find it interesting - just on the Guardian ticker:
As many as 25,000 people within NHS hospitals will be tested for
coronavirus every day as part of a major national effort to boost
testing capacity, the government has confirmed today. With a focus on ensuring the highest priority cases are tested first,
officials are working to rapidly increase the number of tests that can
be conducted by Public Health England and the NHS in laboratories,
with the expected surge in capacity ready within just four weeks ...The UK government has already completed over 50,000 tests. It is
anticipated that, with increased capacity to 25,000 daily, testing
levels in the UK could soon exceed that in China.Last week, the NHS and PHE increased testing to 5,000 a day and that
number continues to increase. By next week it is hoped we will
increase testing to 10,000 per day. -

A rumour from Trumpton. Free ice creams all round. Mr Whippy being mobilised.
Sturgeon- "We will of course only keep them closed for as long as we absolutely have to. But at this stage, I cannot promise that they will reopen before the summer holidays"
Not exactly definite.
