• So having had to cancel/ move the trip to see family in Texas. Norwegian aren't offering straight forward refunds (no surprise there) they can issue cash points or move the date.

Do I do that or try to go through insurance and get the cash value back?

  • can you reverse the credit card charge? might mean you can never fly norwegian again, but if they won't provide service and won't give you the hard cash back, then breach of contracts.

And while they might claim they changed refund policies, they CANNOT legally change pre-existing contracts. I'm about to have this fight with United ;)

  • As far as I know, Norwegian are offering actual refunds for flights that they've cancelled - but that wouldn't apply to trips that you have cancelled yourself:

This information is for flights that have been cancelled due to COVID-19

If you no longer wish to travel, you can cancel your booking online and apply for reimbursement of your ticket.

Two problems there of course - 'apply for reimbursement' doesn't sound great, and even if they were to agree they should refund you, the question is whether they actually have any money to do that with... I think I'll end up slightly out of pocket for my own flight too.
