  • Half the problem is the mixed messaging spreading out from the cabinet instead of a clear constant message.

Other half the problem is that the leader is a proven bullshitter, liar, not good at detail, disinterested, doesn't want to hear bad news, type.

Jacob still going around saying "ignore the official advice, show good common sense"?

Will just have follow the experts that seem most trustworthy, I suppose, and do what seems right. Especially for those with people at risk to care for.

Pritis answer to the virus is probably HANG THE INFECTED, so it could be worse, I suppose.

  • Also the train into work this morning was very. v quiet for a Monday morning commuter.

I'd imagine we'll (hopefully) see a lot more people exercising common sense this week and then Schools will either shut a week early (end of this week) or just ride out until Easter.

  • My kid's school has closed for two days to do a "deep clean" after a parent of a child who attends was confirmed positive. By this point it's probably too late isn't it?

Opening again Weds is the current line but I won't be holding my breath.

Was quiet on the roads this morning. Normally Monday is the busiest day of the week.

  • We've had that sort of system for a while; sticky notes on plugs she shouldn't unplug (internet router. So. Many. Times), talking clock which tells her to take tablets, diary in which she writes everything when people are talking to her on the phone etc.

The issues largely come when routine is broken or stress / worry comes into it. Calling off her 90th party (she'd been fixating on it for about 10 months) a week before it's due to happen has thrown her into a spiral of foregtfullness and worry.

Thankfully, I gave her an old iPad about 5 years ago and she still remembers how to use it so she speaks with my mum at least twice a day on it but even these conversations are repetitive at best.

I'm now trying to facetime her once a day for a chat but it's very hard to continue conversations past the basics.

Really not sure how this can be sustained past a couple of weeks...

  • Germany has, without warning, closed its borders with Luxembourg for all non-essential travel (effectively work and delivery I assume), France seems about to follow suit. Here all schools etc are shut, bars and cafes shut, restaurants are delivery-only, and most companies have some form of working from home (we were about 4 at work today) but the supermarket panic seems to have stopped.

Lucky, I guess, that it's a very small country and it's all a bit more manageable as even draconian measures can't impact THAT many people. It's sunny though and I've seen loads of people out walking or cycling in the forests and countryside so it's not all negative.

  • Just watched a random video someone sent me with messages from Italians, and there was a big NHS logo below it. I thought it was a strange message and clicked on the link to be taken to the NHS website. I only realised it was targeted advertising after the next video had the exact same banner.

Not a great situation when any old video can be confused for an official government message.

  • This kind of thing is, in my view, awesome: https://twitter.com/michalnaka/status/1239316241984049152

  • Meant to be putting an offer in on a place to rent today in London with my partner...opinions on delaying? Feels like an uncertain time to be putting a lot of money into a place

  • Why are people buying up all the eggs? What are they doing with them? Yum, fried eggs on toilet paper for weeks...

  • And read below for a reminder of what cunts people are - the hospital's actual supplier refused to share the blueprints because they weren't making money off it.

  • From The Telegraph but a useful summary

  • The missing column is China....

  • If you haven't got a laptop for working from home good luck finding one; Currys/PC World has been emptied as my boss just discovered.

  • And South Korea, Singapore etc.

Just thought it was interesting to see this in The Telegraph.

There was also a graphic that I forgot to photograph with proportion of ICU beds - UK was towards the bottom of a list of about 25 countries

  • Yeah this is probably the bigger issue

  • There was also a graphic that I forgot to photograph with proportion of ICU beds - UK was towards the bottom of a list of about 25 countries

    ICU beds per 100,000
    UK 6.6
    Germany 29
    Italy 12
    France 9

EDIT - Beaten to it by G&T :)

  • Waiting to hear our 'wfh strategy'. Ah, university life....

  • Currently holed up in bed running a fever of 102 (achy, wheezy, but no cough yet - so might not be it). Keeping Mrs c00ps and mini c00pses away downstairs. Hope everyone else is well. Good job I was WFH today...

  • John Lewis have stock of lots of things and it will be in your local Waitrose tomorrow.

  • 102

    FFS, get with the metric!

  • I’m an old(ish) cunt. What can I say...

    Would you rather Kelvin?

  • Also this is the final nail in the coffin of the highstreet right?

  • Some shops undoubtedly, but others will be fine. Boom time for chemists.

  • Will there be boost to bike shops as people avoid public transport?

  • In theory I'm working from the office next week. I'm too lardy to cycle in and out 5 days in a row so I'm wondering where I could get an e-bike from in a hurry.

    I should probably just HTFU
