We're testing as many as we can practically. They are trying to increase the capacity.
Friend works for Barts, so I know that part of the problem was/is that pathology departments weren't set up to test for SARS-CoV-2 (unsurprising as it's new) which meant that they were having to ship tests off site.
When I saw him on Wednesday he said they'd just got the in house testing up and running.

Haha I read that with disbelief yesterday too. Pure propaganda.
They’re not testing in the community, there’s no lockdown, so what are they going to do? Arrest people who cough?!

Very good. I shall now start my pre-lockdown ride on my bike in a good mood.

I do wonder if we will see draconian laws passed through post haste, that can then be used in the future for other purposes.

Oh I completely agree it should not be Johnson. A non politician briefer would take the politics out of it and as you say be able to answer questions. Actually you are right, probably should be Witty or someone of equal calibre so questions can be answered. Johnson will only turn up for the first couple anyway and he only works a 4 day week so cant do 3 days.
(Again though as a knee jerk reaction this is an example of lack of top tier comms planning. Of course the details of a "ROSIE" or similar dont need to be shared).

It isn't but it may become so if I feel the incompetence of my employers reaches a certain level..

NL government announced yesterday evening that cafes, restaurants and schools to shut with immediate effect. Bruno Bruins, the health minister, said at a news conference that sexclubs and coffee shops would shut too. The horror. Schools and daycare centres to run skeleton crews for kids of essential workers, others to use e-learning.

The running gag here in Flanders is that local authorities in North Brabant, Zeelandic Flanders and Limburg panicked as nice weather saw hordes of thirsty Fleming boomers riding north of the border for their midday post-ride beers.
There was also some news footage suggesting officials in Friesland had begun acting independently of The Hague.
One microbiologist told a public broadcaster (can´t find the clip now) that the Washington Post simulation repeatedly mentioned here was realistic.
Mass hoarding, including of weed.

Guardian live reporting Singapore’s national development minister Lawrence Wong criticised the UK approach and Switzerland and Japan. Has he mixed up Switzerland and Sweden? Lol everyone does that

Christ. Imagine being holed up for two weeks with other human beings
One student in Amsterdam, Juan, 21, told the paper he had bought nine slices of space cake for him and his eight roommates.
At least then it will be a bit more fun in the coming weeks. We have connected two Playstations. That space cake is for later.
Tonight we will start with the Harry Potter marathon -

Not sure how a slice per person is going to help you. Barely enough for 1 evening....

Interesting. Wondered if that might be possible.

Van Ranst, a senior government adviser, and compulsive Twitterer, has begun referring to himself as BV, short for bekende viroloog (famous virologist). BV usually stands for bekende Vlaming (a celebrity) because he keeps popping up on telly.
He´s taken flak on Twitter for telling young people to stay the fuck home even though boomers seemed to be the worst offenders on Friday, shoehorning themselves into cafes and organising lockdown parties.

I'm gonna kick back and watch The Andromeda Strain in a moment, fuck this malarkey...
I got signed off work for a week today, can't shift this bug I've had for ages... I'm overworked and we're understaffed!! Coincides with the first reported cases of Covid in my immediate area, I'm battening down the hatches for a while...

Parents have self-isolated with a dry cough and temperature.
Although they're both retired, my mum still does the odd week back at her school she used to work at. She did that last week. A girl from the school had a confirmed case on Thursday last week.
Looks like they're now not going to be able to visit my Grandma on her 90th on Friday. I'm wfh and haven't seen my parents since last Wednesday so should be able to visit instead on Friday...

so mass testing would put front line medical workers at risk of serious illness or death.
I wonder if this is true. I suspect not, given that S Korea seems to be currently held as having the best response to the virus. I imagine that mass testing would absolutely allow you to deploy your medical staff much more appropriately in better targeted ways, which may actually contribute to their safety.
But obviously this is just conjecture - I can see there's a case either way.

what exactly is a continuous cough? my daughter is off school and strictly applying the letter of NHS guidelines it should now be 7 days, I would put her at on the border of what you would call a continuous cough, plus she has other non-covid19 symptoms, just seems like a cold, and am aware of others who had similar a week ago. i see no option but for her to be off 7 days at this point, fortunately she is old enough to be home alone and loves cross-stitch (making an Ewok today!) and brooklyn 99 on netflix!

Looks like Guinness is safe.
Does anyone know what time the televised press conferences to update the public are?
