    Fucking scary

About testing: S Korea claims that testing was a major factor in their going post peak. If they really have

  • Also calling it now, gen Z will be renamed Coronials.

  • How is this going to work? This might only apply for people who are in hospital and run away?
Every other possible Covid-19 case is not going to be tested so won't show up anywhere?

British police will have powers to arrest Covid-19 patients not self-isolating, the health secretary has confirmed.

  • That data won't be good if the coders in trusts aren't able to work. It will be the WHO ICD10 emergency covid code and that's probably it, no co-morbity codes to identify risk factors. That's why the list of co-mordities hasn't really changed, Clinical staff won't be inputting data in their downtime, they'll be sleeping.
Also, banging on about it again, but if anyone ever needed motivation to quit smoking, this should be it.

  • Chinese govt is now claiming that people in Europe are paying RMB 150k to get to china as it's the safest place in the world. I went out to a village on the outskirts of Shanghai on Saturday and nearly had dogs set on us as the villagers were worried we were from Italy.

  • Are they angry they just lost the lead today?

  • Some of the rubbish propagada China is really Pilling on how they are "winning" is crazy.
@hats any truth in the protests in wuhan where locals have had enough of things. I have seen things online but not a huge amount confirmed.

  • There was a really weird incident last week where people in Wuhan were shouting at a local official and it got reported by the Global Times (CCP mouthpiece) - potentially because the local gov are going to get the blame for it all, and central gov will take all the credit (Xi Jinping went to Wuhan at the end of last week). But then the post was deleted... So I'm not really sure. Wuhan has a very recent track record of protests, there was a huge one around the same time that the HK protests started - it was unrelated but the gov was very worried about it, 1m people on the streets, it got suppressed VERY quickly and there was a complete media blackout.

  • The significant benefit of larger swathes of the (less affected) population who have Corona symptoms is that those who test positive and recover can (if it's true that it's unlikely one can contract the illness twice) immediately get back to work, earning, spending, caring, socialising and in that way better support those that can't. People like myself and many others on here who have been self isolating might also feel even more anxious to then go outside for fear of contracting 'the real Corona' immediately following a different flu-like illness or some virus of some type.

  • that's the way it's organised here in Belgium.

  • Damn

  • Norway would be a good place to ride this out.

  • Trump will hit the roof on Twitter when he sees that

  • That data won't be good if the coders in trusts aren't able to work. It will be the WHO ICD10 emergency covid code and that's probably it, no co-morbity codes to identify risk factors.

Testing people before they are admitted isn't going to fix that, I would have thought.

FWIW I'm going to assume that the 'ops' around a trust will work until they can't, and at that point I'd think you might have bigger problems than 'oh no my data isn't perfect'. I hope it doesn't come to that, mind.

  • My youngest daughter had a play date yesterday, her friend comes round with her dad and heโ€™s hanging out having a coffee. All the kids are bugging him for piggy backs and he obliges, galloping round the house. Then he casually drops that he got back from the states last week and got sent home from work on Friday to self isolate. Nice ๐Ÿ‘

  • Yeah, that sounds like he's a total fucking dick!

  • I got back from the States last week too. If you have no symptoms, you have no symptoms. Being sent home by your company to self-isolate does not mean you are infected, contagious or anything else.

You have to assume that if he were knowingly ill/contagious he would be protecting your kids [and his] from infection.

  • If he was told to self isolate for a more specific reason (i.e. a co-worker had tested positive) then he's a fucking dick for assuming it doesn't apply to him or that he can pick and choose as to what "self-isolation" means.

  • Isn't data what we need in order to learn for now and the future?

Also testing gives peace of mind. Knowing you got/had it, or you've got a cold

There just aren't the resources to test everyone. There never will be enough kits or enough medical staff, who are desperately needed for people who are properly going to be in need of medical help.

Also, we already know from China that the more you're exposed to the virus the more likely you are to get it, and the more serious your symptoms will be, so mass testing would put front line medical workers at risk of serious illness or death.

For most people coronavirus will be pretty mild and you can look after yourself at home.

  • Oh and my work tested mass wfh at the weekend and it fell over so we're all in the office tomorrow

If your cough is new and continuous you should be self-isolating for a week, which would be a valid reason not to go into the office...

  • You have to assume that if he were knowingly ill/contagious he would be protecting your kids [and his] from infection.

Because all people are cautious and responsible? Who knew?

  • Lee High Road beside the BP/M&S garage

  • Well you can't say they don't listen to you.

Whitty would be be better. It's been clear from the previous press conferences that Johnson has no idea what he's talking about and fields any questions that aren't extremely simple to him.

  • ... We're not testing anyone either unless they have severe symptoms, no?

p.s. To be fair, I don't think this is very clear at all. Has the government said who they're actually testing now? Another example of poor communication @velosaurus
