Anyone who's worried about being housebound and getting out of shape would be welcome to borrow my spare turbo for the next few months - I only keep it for warm ups away from the house and won't need it for a while. You'd need to collect it from se23

Ah shit man, definitely a complicated situation. You sound level headed enough to make a sound judgement, and beyond onlookers I don't think anyone would judge you for preparing a little more conservatively.

Do we need a ready, steady, isolate thread?
Absolutely.

The US administration is being mauled for lack of cohesive leadership especially around lack of testing...
... We're not testing anyone either unless they have severe symptoms, no?

As I understand it Yes there are no tests unless you are admitted or need additional help - no point otherwise, it’s just for data and consumes buckets of resources. Better to assume you have it if symptoms and isolate and wait for the next step.

it’s just for data
Isn't data what we need in order to learn for now and the future?
Also testing gives peace of mind. Knowing you got/had it, or you've got a cold

Well, daughter is in her second week of sore throat and up and down temp. I have a swollen gland (ahem) and a tickly cough. Wife's parents are stuck on a boat in Norway. Older brother has flu symptoms having just looked after my elderly parents for the week, who have both been in contact with someone who's brother definitely has it. Oh and my work tested mass wfh at the weekend and it fell over so we're all in the office tomorrow . Fan-bloody-tastic.

I don’t know - they’ll get good data from the hospitals and will work backwards from there presumably.
Also testing gives peace of mind. Knowing you got/had it, or you've got a cold
When there’s a faster less resource hungry test available that will happen
Possible best course of action -
If you have the symptoms assume you’ve got it
Once recovered behave as if you haven’t had it

Why is the difference so much more pronounced for UK and Switzerland than for Germany, France and Spain ?
Is it just because they still have an extra 3-4 days of time to implement the full quarantine, whereas for France/Spain/Germany it's already 'too little too late' ?Edit:
This simulation puts France at 6 days behind Italy, Germany at 7 days behind, and Spain at 8 days behind. Other references I found put France at 8-9 days behind, Germany at 9-11 days behind and Spain at 10-11 days, so that might give a small but crucial extra bit of time. Although, from looking at various sites again now, that "days behind" seems to get less as each new day passes, so it might end up being even worse than this simulation in the end. I'm hoping for the former... -

... We're not testing anyone either unless they have severe symptoms, no?
We're testing as many as we can practically. They are trying to increase the capacity. Part of the problem (AIUI) is that if you order a shitload of tests it takes a long time to get the results back. Better to focus on those in hospital etc. that waste man-hours testing people who are just going to be told to stay at home regardless.
My q from 2 days ago! Vulnerable 70yos to be wrapped in cotton wool and put in spare room.
Stuck on what to do tomorrow. Wfh or go out? Get the virus before it goes nuts?
