My girls have had temperatures and coughs over the past couple of days, but seem to be OK if a bit grumpy now. As both my OH and I have had sniffles, mild temperatures, and feeling under the weather, I guess we're all self-isolating until next weekend. I suspect it's probably not CV, but there have been confirmed cases at the universities we teach at so ¯_(ツ)_/¯.

Bless.
It’s also worth noting that symptoms come on slowly, or slower than the flu at least, so perhaps not so bad to be cautious! -
• #4079
Really happy to be corrected. Please can you point me to where this comms plan is published please?

I’m getting a bit worried about all this... feels like the government is doing fuck all and lives are at risk.
-
• #4081
Hey!
I'm the snarky one! -
• #4082
Rightly so, because they are, and they are.
-
• #4083
Hope everyone gets over this sharpish

We don't normally do big supermarkets (anymore) as they've made food shopping a real chore. To me at least. But today I had planned to go into Surrey Quays Tesco as I was nearby. Within 10-15 minutes of opening there was no pasta, canned vegs, TP or tissue left. Lots of empty shelves in all the long-life food products aisles. Same for cleaning stuff.
I only walked out with a basket worth of stuff, but it felt wrong still. -

“As many as 80% of the population are expected to be infected with Covid-19 in the next 12 months, and up to 15% (7.9 million people) may require hospitalisation.”
-
• #4086
Hope you’re doing ok!
The panic buying is also stressing me, next week actually feels a bit scary.
I heard from friends of friends in government that London is/was going to be “locked down”. -
• #4087
Ok so I checked here again
And the plan for the delay stage is
The Delay phase – next steps If the disease becomes established in the UK, we will need to consider further measures to reduce the rate
and extent of its spread. Based on experience with previous outbreaks,
it may be that widespread exposure in the UK is inevitable; but
slowing it down would still nonetheless be beneficial. For example, health services are less busy in the summer months when
flu and other winter bugs are not driving GP consultations and
hospital admissions. In the 2009 ‘swine flu’ pandemic school holidays
significantly slowed transmission of the virus. We will increase publicity about the need for good hygiene measures
(hand washing, and catch it, bin it, kill it) and further promote the
need for people with symptoms to stay at home for the full duration of
their illness.Other action will be considered to help achieve a Delay in the spread
of the disease. We will aim to minimise the social and economic
impact, subject to keeping people safe. Such judgements will be
informed based on the best available and most up-to-date scientific
evidence, and take into account the trade-offs involved.Action that would be considered could include population distancing
strategies (such as school closures, encouraging greater home working,
reducing the number of large-scale gatherings) to slow the spread of
the disease throughout the population, while ensuring the country’s
ability to continue to run as normally as possible. The UK
governments’ education departments’ planning assumptions include the
possibility of having to close educational settings in order to reduce
the spread of infection. We would consider such measures in order to protect vulnerable
individuals with underlying illnesses and thus at greater more at risk
of becoming seriously affected by the disease. The effectiveness of
these actions will need to be balanced against their impact on
society.Seems a bit light touch to me and no mention of comms. Apologies again if missing something?

And no supermarkets are delivering anymore.
-
• #4089
Yeh that’s going well for them. They’ve fuelled panic, misinformation and distrust and the health minister contradicted the CSA over the herd immunity stuff.
-
• #4090
Where will the children of hospital staff go?
Will they get crèche/schools/teachers?
Here in Rhone-Alps region of France, schools shutdown was imposed on Thursday night (12th), and we received an email from the kids school yesterday telling us that the schools will be open (though not teaching) exclusively for children of parents in care services (medical/docs/nurses) or first responders, basically childminding for those with public service jobs who can't stop work to look after their children.

Meanwhile we havent heard from Boris since Thursday.
-
• #4092
Honestly we’re reyt. As will be most people who catch it and aren’t at risk due to their age or lack of existing conditions.
I genuinely don’t think panic buying is worth worrying about, either way - if you go out and panic buy yourself, it only makes the situation worse. Surely everyone has plenty food of some sort in the cupboards? Those weird noodles you tried once and didn’t really like, weird tins of beans, a half bag of oats etc. Not ideal, but definitely enough to avoid starving on!

• #4093
Fingers crossed that’s it for all of you
-
• #4094
. I'm sorry. I should not have ranted. It has been a very, very busy day.
-
• #4095
Sorry lowbrows, posted before I read you coment. Deleted.
Edit: I am not criticising the work being done by the NHS. I am concerned about the communication by politicians.
-
• #4096
Yeah. Hope something similar can be worked out here, just thinking of everyone in the hospitals.
-
• #4097
Omg trump is unbelievable, crazy press conference just over
-
• #4098
If anything we ought to eat less. I'm gonna turn into a fat shit if I'm locked in my flat with no way to exercise.
-
• #4099
Yes, it's what is needed now. One spokesman. Not the "source close to no10"
-
• #4100
Fuck, as much as we relentlessly mocked them it's going to be the Peloton users who are going to come out of this healthy and well adjusted from all that social contact and exercise. The rest of us will be fat recluses
He's perked up (still coughing) after nurofen, Broncho-stop Tumble and booby (I mean, who wouldn't?). Just don't take his sippy cup!
