I wasn't massively sold on BL3 when I tried the free weekend. Felt like it has lost the spark of the previous game. Be interested to see how you get on with it
I have now given it a whirl and I agree with you. I'd forgotten that people were panicking before it came out that the tone had changed, to go back to how it was in the first game (which I didn't really like). As soon as I started playing I remembered all that right away, because that's exactly what it's like. Bit of a pisser, but I can live with it - the third one at least has the benefit of presumably not being full of rape jokes and homophobia like the first one was.
The bigger problem is that the subtitles are catastrophic. Fuck me, it's so bad I'm almost impressed. Every time you talk to a character outside of a mission, they say something and the game subtitles it with one of Marcus' lines (the same fucking line, every time). I just went through an entire mission that didn't have a single subtitle for any of the instructions. Various random bits and pieces like chatter from vending machines and your character aren't subtitled at all, and I can't tell if it's because the subs are just fucked or if it's because Gearbox were lazy twats and didn't bother adding subs for certain events in the first place. Holy shit.
"I'll just wait 6 months for the Steam version", she said, "they'll have ironed out most of the problems by then"
