Cheers, that sounds sensible. Right now I’m just doing some kind of shambling jog with short steps, as 30-odd years of cycling means my legs are only used to going around in tiny circles. I’ll need to take a good couple of weeks to work out a proper stride length and gait, and I have to learn to land properly too.

I would say get some ASICS GT 1000 or something similar. Run for a while in those until you get a feel for running and then base your decision on that.
Like bike fitting, gait analysis is not standardised and there’s a lot of bullshit from the Saturday boy. Get some miles under your feet you know what kind of runner you are
