  • Bit of shoe advice needed for a novice here. I’ve just started the C25K thingy, just about to start the second week. Fairly fit on a bike (100m per week) but have never run at all. I’ve been using a pair of elderly Nikes and my feet are a bit bruised, so it’s time for something better. What sort of budget am I looking at, and what would anyone recommend? Ta.

  • I would say get some ASICS GT 1000 or something similar. Run for a while in those until you get a feel for running and then base your decision on that.

Like bike fitting, gait analysis is not standardised and there’s a lot of bullshit from the Saturday boy. Get some miles under your feet you know what kind of runner you are

  • Cheers, that sounds sensible. Right now I’m just doing some kind of shambling jog with short steps, as 30-odd years of cycling means my legs are only used to going around in tiny circles. I’ll need to take a good couple of weeks to work out a proper stride length and gait, and I have to learn to land properly too.

@nefarious, thanks, I’ll get that done too, once I’ve sorted out some sort of actual running style.
