  • Bit of shoe advice needed for a novice here. I’ve just started the C25K thingy, just about to start the second week. Fairly fit on a bike (100m per week) but have never run at all. I’ve been using a pair of elderly Nikes and my feet are a bit bruised, so it’s time for something better. What sort of budget am I looking at, and what would anyone recommend? Ta.

  • Something that suits your feet. Personally I reckon it's worth going to a specialist and getting a gait analysis and a proper fitting. You'll pay more vs online but you're more likely to get a more suitable shoe, and once you know what type/brand suits you can buy online for subsequent pairs.

  • I would say get some ASICS GT 1000 or something similar. Run for a while in those until you get a feel for running and then base your decision on that.

Like bike fitting, gait analysis is not standardised and there’s a lot of bullshit from the Saturday boy. Get some miles under your feet you know what kind of runner you are
