When will they release a gravel smart trainer (normal smart trainer, but it has a mug dangling off it and a tartan shirt, and it costs 300 quid extra) and gravel zwift version so that we can ride the grav over winter without all the faff.

There is gravel in zwift already. And mtb.

Going through loads of pads in winter isn’t that unusual. Went through a set on one ride at a very rainy passportes du soleil loop a few years back.

3 chains in 2k km wtf? 6 sets of brake pads? No idea of the terrain but it seems like a lot.

Sound about right TBH, especially when his tyres are completely worn out.

Stick to road riding it be less than half that.

sets of brake pads (5 resin, 1 sintered) - I don't remember going through as many on my mountain bike but then I guess the bike is being used differently which could explain the increased wear.

You didn’t says if you have changed rotors, if the rotors even slightly used, it will accelerate pads wear.

E.g. pads is worn after 1,000km, and rotor while still thick, showing slight wear (lips above and below brake track), still replaced them as the next pads will wear it thinner, and likely to cause piston to pop out if both pads and rotor start to wear out.

I've not checked the rotors yet - had presumed they would be ok, most likely erroneously.
I know it's impossible to estimate wear on components given the variables with riding but 1000km per rotor does seem low!

Not really, rotors varies on brand, Shimano I find wear out sooner but I find their performance great.

It’s just how we ride, my summer bike have 3,400km but no chain or pads wear as it never see rain let alone puddle of water.

Example of customer who doesn’t look after their bike since last service 6 months ago (his pads is nearly gone), you can see not only lips but lots of tiny grooves;

It’s not really a case of measuring rotors wear, but whether the surface of the rotors is worn unevenly (such as groove in the last pictures), even if you only have it for a short periods of time.

Disc doesn’t mean it last twice or thrice as long, just that it can take a lots more than a conventional rims brakes, in some cases can even doesn’t last as long as a rims brake bicycles!

Damn, at least that’s one advantage of living in a pancake country. Still on my original rotor on the back, I probably should check it. Must have done 7k km by now, mostly on the road tho. But still sees lots of bad roads and weather.

You can run your finger on the rotor to feel the groove/lips, if you find yourself replacing pads more often than usual; the rotors is usually the culprit causing accelerated wear.

As @alialias said; road condition play a big roles in this.

Sintered pads, at least Hope's, seem to last incredibly long. In 2018 I put new pads for the Northcape-Tarifa, 7400km with lots of mountains and rain on a loaded bike, and after that continued to use those pads through slushy nordic winter(though on flat terrain mostly), a gravel race that wore out a chain in a single day (usually I get more like 2000 km out of a chain) among other things, only changed them before the TCR next summer. So like 20k km.

@Pmccee what kind of brakes do you have?
i've noticed that my force1 hydro have really small rotor-pad distance if compared to level ultimates on my mtb (they use the same pads and rotors). and i tend to wear more pads on my gravel, especially in the front, than on mtb, although mtb rides sometimes get a lot muddier.

my last pair of magura pads lasted a grand total of 400km on the Ht550.

I went on a 900km tour (with gravels across mountains) through the Pyrenees coast to coast and completely destroyed the front pads and rotors.

They were new before I left the UK.
