  • Today is Friday the 13th.

    Apologies to those with triskaidekaphobia

  • I didn't notice that there was - the football being called off, gatherings being cancelled, people wfh etc. all seems to be actions taken independently of government.

Not directly but as a consequence of the actions they laid out. If the lead singer or players are sick the gig/ game won’t go ahead. You don’t need to ban events to have events not happen...

  • That's some mad footage.
Went to the Spanish Steps feed, ghost town. Quite eerie considering what it normally looks like

  • Great time to grab a selfie on then Joker steps

  • Women’s Curling Worlds in Canada cancelled with a day to go. All the teams have already arrived.

Hoping they grow some balls and cancel the men’s with a bit more notice.

  • Cancelled completely or just put on ice for a few weeks?

  • My office seats around 100 people. Today I'm one of three people here.

  • To the people who asked up thread if they can go for a run whilst in self quarantine; my local health authorities says that would be OK. Just don't go into cafes and stuff.

  • Haha very good.

They are building a rink on top of the running track for the men’s so if they cancel now then no ice to put it on.

  • Just realised I don’t own a thermometer. As has everyone else by the looks of it - sold out everywhere I can think to look online.

  • Lots of anecdotal "first cases were identified in November, was probably going around before then and I had a cunt of a cold in December" stories coming from around the globe.

How likely is it that this has been a pandemic far longer than known and a significant number of people internationally have indeed already had it?

Again, anecdotally, partner and I were both bed ridden for a week in December with a strangely dry cold that never came to much in terms of mucus but hung around for a couple of weeks. Makes me wonder as we both work in germ-pit offices with high international populations.

  • We were trying to remember if the thermometer in the house was the one that had been up the dog's arse or if that had been left at the in-laws.

  • Does anyone know if one could be tested after having had Corona and somehow test positive by way of traces of the virus or by identifying certain antibodies in your system?
Seeing as there also are mild cases not needing hospitalisation, it would be great if a few months from now we could figure out who have become immune (if any) and that these people could form a volunteer force that could look after the vulnerable and elderly who will cooped up in their homes.

  • I've had a bug, off and on, for a fortnight now, finally got the thermometer out today and my temp was normal... Yippee but now I'm confused...

  • Government advice if self isolating is no:

While you are staying at home, make sure you do the following things:
    Stay at home
You should remain in your home. Do not go to work, school, or public areas, and do not use public transport or taxis. You cannot go for a walk.

  • Anyone been to Rome ?
    This is live I think

Absolutely insane. When I visited last year and ran past at 6am it was busier.

Also I came out of a club around 230am and it was busier too!

  • TFL driver positive - says Sky news/PA

  • I had a cunt of a cold in December

Funnily enough, I had exactly this; I wouldn't have been able to crawl across a ploughed field for a stack of £50 notes.

It started with a nagging dry cough that wouldn't do one for weeks, then turned in to three days of utter shite. On day four I tried fixing a bike, after about 20 mins I was back in bed.

    But! No fever.

I'm also vaccinated against the most popular flu strains.

  • From what has been seen in Northern Italy and Wuhan in terms of the case spike, I don't think this was circulating widely before end of December. Sorry, but you probably still have cv to come.

  • I'm not thinking of the cold I had on and off for a few weeks too. Didn't think of taking my temp at the time and just put it down to a seasonal thing.

  • Ah shit. Here we go.

  • I normally err on the side of skepticism with these kind of things but the escalation this week has coincided with my wife and kids all getting poleaxed by a nasty fluey bug which has rather changed my perspective. That and the fact my Father in Law's leukemia has just relapsed and he's about to start treatment.

I genuinely don't know if my family's illness was CV (on balance probably not) but the thought of passing something that nasty on to my father in law while his immune system is shot, is scary.

  • 🤷‍♂️

We will be sure to find out soon I guess but given how hard and fast it's spread since detected and how interconnected/international we are now, if out and about pre-December our Christmas migration would have undoubtedly done for covid what the Chinese New year's celebrations did for it too.
