I have a Thule euro ride three. It is awesome. I can't think of any cons at all. It beats any other type of rack hands down.

Maybe one criticism could be that it is large and you need somewhere to store it when not on the car.

Would you ever consider leaving it on there permanently? If it had the ability to fold up?

I have a fairly long estate car (v90) so wouldn't want to carry round the extra length when I wasn't using the rack. If you found one that folds it probably makes it easier. The Thule one has a hinge that makes boot access pretty easy.
