My 70 year old dad said he knows some people are paying to have the pneumococcal vaccine as a precaution.
https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/vaccinations/when-is-pneumococcal-vaccine-needed/
He's going to ask his GP obviously, but anyone heard of this being worthwhile for those more at risk of complications from COVID19?

I doubt a vaccine against the bacterium streptococcus pneumoniae will help against covid-19 but I'm not a doctor...

Anyone got an age demographic break down for fatalities in Italy?
Grasselli again, this time briefing chiefly Norwegian and German intensivists:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BY7te2LH6_k
The bit on mean ages of intensive care admissions starts at about 21 minutes in.
He says in the beginning that about 13 per cent of positives need intensive care. Looking absolutely shattered, he said his staff had been working 20 hours a day. At the end he effectively told his fellow doctors to tell their politicians to remove their fingers.

In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled exploratory trial, 35 human subjects suffering from early symptoms of common cold received Iota-Carrageenan (0.12%) in a saline solution three times daily for 4 days, compared to placebo.

How do you think science and evidence works?
- Seek out Twitter threads that confirm your preconceived ideas
- Write crazed article based on them, disregarding any doubts or uncertainty

The latest consensus from north Italy is just that tocilizumab might have a theoretical benefit. It isn’t without side effects and there are difficult decisions about when to use it. If you’re a mild/moderate case who is likely to recover, why risk it. Equally if you’re critically ill on ITU and at huge risk of superinfection, are we really so sure that it works that we’ll risk immunosuppression. Not convinced it’ll be making its way into the treatment guidelines in the UK.

Someone I went to school with years ago is a confirmed Corona case as of Monday .
One of my good friends in Glasgow has got a fever and dry cough having met with up with a mutual friend of the first person who saw the confirmed case on Sunday
NHS 111 won’t test you if you haven’t left the country in the last 15days she says... so the actual numbers with the infection might actually be a lot higher the publishing suggests. she has been told to self isolate and ride it out, wont be classed as it though.
Her fiancé works for a massive international company as an apprentice mechanic, he is not self isolating as he will “loose his job” if he does. ~55% of their staff are 50yrs+.... the reality of being scared of loosing your job against government advice...

I, for one, am looking forward to riding around the completely empty streets on "the way to work" as I spend the next week or so on call.
