Watched the bbc news last night, and the chap video'd showing no one in the streets in Matera. What does he think would happen when there is a curfew? Interesting point by the Jurno about filling in forms to travel but who actually inspects them.

Interesting to see that in contrast to the UK approach, Ukraine has closed schools and banned >200 people gatherings after 2 positive cases.

No-one can tell us what we should do.

Could just be a cold/virus, but I do feel we have a duty to do the right thing if there is a risk.
However, self isolation of a family of four with two toddlers would be a fucking nightmare.

I don’t see a problem with that at all- better than doomsday anxiety / panic a lot of people seem to have ...

If in doubt call your local GP/Hospital for advice-they might send someone round rather than have you go in, or at least give you some better advice.

We know from other places that the death rate of the coronavirus is anything between 0.5% and 5% (more on that later). How could the death rate be 33%?

It turned out that the virus had been spreading undetected for weeks. It’s not like there were only 3 cases. It’s that authorities only knew about 3, and one of them was dead because the more serious the condition, the more likely somebody is to be tested.

Incredibly flawed logic. If one person enters the lottery and wins, that doesn't mean that there are 1 million other undetected players. It's likely that there are other players, but you don't know whether it's just random good luck for that one individual unless you have some idea of your detection rate. This is quite a fundamental statistical assumption that underlies everything else he is saying

Agreed. It'd be a bit different if this was a death rate of 33% amongst 1000 people, but not 1 amongst 3.

Read the NYT story about the Seattle flu survey that had thousands of swabs from weeks and weeks before first ‘official’ case was identified. They were stopped from testing them all by the CDC as the patients had not consented to coronavirus testing but found the virus in swabs taken weeks earlier.

Conservatives missed a trick. 100% inheritance tax on people who die from coved-19. It’d be a great tax on poor people as they are most likely to succumb and if they got ill it’s their fault the country is having these problems.

I've seen a lot of posts on medium along this vein. I normally have a quick google of the author to see what their level of expertise is. I'd be expecting healthcare professional, phd, that kind of thing.

Almost always though they're about as qualified as I am (or often less so) to comment on something like this. This one is a Growth, Product and Marketing leader at Course Hero for instance.
