• Where's that data from?
I read that Italy have about 5000 IC beds in Italy as standard (rising to 7,500 in emergencies) for a population of about 60 million people, while France has about 13000 IC beds as standard, for a population of about 67 million people.

The two healthcare systems are also very different. Italy is more
vulnerable to fast-moving outbreaks. Under normal circumstances, there
are about 5,000 intensive care and resuscitation beds in Italy, RTL
reported. As a result of the coronavirus crisis, that capacity will
rise to 7,500, as 20,000 medical staff are brought in to deal with the
healthcare situation. France has about 13,000 intensive care and / or
resuscitation beds as standard in public and private hospitals.

    Edit: maths done
Which puts Italy at 8.3 /12.5, and France at 20.
Living in France, I find that more comforting...

  • Thanks for clarifying.

I prefer to take comfort in the figures I found, just because they're bigger...

After years of mocking everyone here as hypochondriacs, and despite the noticeable decline in the overall state of France's healthcare system over the last 5-10 years, I can now at least profit from the (relative) abundance of medical equipment and facilities in place.
