  • Other half is wfh this week due to a colleague being tested after contact with a confirmed case. They were told by PHE on Sunday morning to expect a result on Friday so maybe they've made the timescales more realistic. Or it's actually going to be longer...

  • You can still transfer in Singapore, no? I was literally just checking travel restrictions for Aus and Singapore as all our work travel is fucked...

  • Right now, yes - but I'm flying on the 25th, so it's a case of trying to guess what's going to be the situation in a couple of weeks.

  • I think you're all crazy to be flying anywhere... Airports, aeroplanes and hotels, no thanks...

  • To be honest, at this rate, coming from the UK is going to get you blocked. Things are chilling out here. Well, kind of chilling out, I went to the hospital this morning and was greeted by a lady in a hazmat suit.

  • TS at your age you should add “cruises and coach trips” to that list

  • OK, so in practical terms, it seems the options are either I go elsewhere and gf self-isolates for 2 weeks, or I stay here and we both isolate together?

All this and there are no restrictions on getting a train and bus back from Stansted...

  • Lucky for TS his favourite mode of transport is his own two feet.

  • What hospital was that?

  • With Israel imposing a 14 day quantise one anyone entering the country and other countries susceptible to following, I am not sure I fancy travelling just now.

Received an email this morning asking me how I wanted to travel to Zürich in June. Somehow I suspect, I shall not be travelling to Zurich in June.

  • One of the private hospitals in Shanghai.

  • The Israeli thing is simply to avoid annoying Trump I thought, given that either the death rate in the US is insane compared to other countries, or their infection rate is way higher than publicly stated, and Israel doesn't want travellers from the US.

  • So I just had a thought ... lung issues being the main risk factor and pneumonia the main cause of death, will we see a correlation between general air pollution levels and fatality rate?

  • Ha! And ha at @hats too!! Both accurate...

I've booked time off over Easter to drive down to Sydney and visit Erin wth Lori, but in the current climate I'm not even sure I want to do that... Let's see where we are in four weeks time...

  • I'm fairly sure there is a link between smoking and fatalities - in Hubei, more men have died than women, and I don't think it's a coincidence that men in China (esp of that sort of age group) are extremely likely to smoke whereas women are extremely unlikely to smoke.

  • I read something about the US is difficult to be tested in - if you want a test it'll cost a thousand (or whatever) dollars, then if it's positive you get quarantined at a cost of thousands of dollars per night.

I don't know how much of that is true - do they have a public health care that would cover the cost and testing?

  • The poorest in the states will be greatly affected by insurance-base healthcare, unless they waive it for the endemic.

  • Trump fired their emergency healthcare team and didn't hire replacements. Then rather then buy testing kits that already exist they decided to make their own, which turned out to be faulty.

  • unless they waive it

I think this will be unlikely until either death rates reach some predetermined tipping point (though, given he sacked the team that planned for these eventualities, who knows whether they even have a number!) or someone of significance in the administration loses a loved one or dies.

    (removes cynicism hat)

  • In the US you can't (or couldn't, might be changing) be tested if you haven't travelled to an at risk country, and it'll cost (before health insurance) over $3,000 to be tested.

Either the death rate in the US is very high compared to South Korea, or the infection rate in the US is under-reported.

  • Shit got real, just started contemplating ordering extra coffee beans before the country shuts down

    #covidgolfclubpreppers

  • Next comes stockpiling enough ortolan, foie gras and truffles.

  • In times of need, it would not be looked down upon to substitute with starling instead.

    Supplement with dormice.

  • We were contemplating escalating to bald eagle chicks instead, none of your race to the bottom nonsense.
