Agreed - that's my point. They're not going to need the money any time soon.
I reckon they'll be a few people who's pensions take a battering over the next couple of months who will feel it though.

Had anyone read anything about the validity of implementing age based quarantines? Surely a quarantine of more at risk people (partly defined on an age basis ) would reduce the number of severe cases and make load on health services more manageable? It would also allow better economic continuity , and allow the virus to circulate amongst the working age population who are less likely to become severe cases and, if that confers immunity, create something of a firewall against further spread.

There has been talk, although not sure how seriously considered, of a ban of over 70s going to public events in the UK.
I suspect that if the government decide to do that it will likely be announced sooner rather than later.

To be fair, the Russians started it.

It would surely make sense to put in far greater restrictions and to reduce age of that given the risk profile. Government could then take measures to support people (e.g. free contact numbers for delivery services etc.)

Makes sense.

It's always bloody electromagnetic shit isn't it?

Half tempted to google it, but then that just feeds the bullshit.

They clean the tube periodically. The people that do it are called fluffers

Was at a TT on Sunday being served cake by old ladies. No soap in the toilets. Will I die?
-
• #1841
Definitely. 100% certainly.

Corona in our building, on my floor #pray4mickie
-
• #1843
I did steal all the TP from the ladies and gents though. Swings and roundabouts.
-
• #1844
I’ve been drinking nothing but hand sanitizer for a week now, no corona virus for me.
-
• #1845
Are swings a new addition to the TT?

I went to a gig in Brighton on Thursday, it was in St George’s church. A few hundred people and a few coronavirus “catch it, bin it, kill it” posters around.
Of course, there was no soap in the toilets.

Why not?
There are times when a totalitarian government running a command economy (albeit with pseudo-capitalist areas) can do certain things much more quickly than a democracy. The democracy needs to declare a full-blown emergency before it can even think of just repurposing buildings arbitrarily. The totalitarians can just order medical staff to relocate, can order citizens to observe disciplined self-isolation under pain of pain etc. Also, China, being huge, has ready resources to reallocate in the short term.
Of course, the comparison is worse when the democracy
- has cut its health system to the bone and runs it continually under severe stress
- is notionally lead by a blustering lightweight who prefers to pretend problems don't exist or are trivially solved by this "great nation"
- is actually lead by neo-Darwinist sociopathic disaster capitalists
- is in the middle of an ideologically-driven crusade to remove itself from systems that could help, supported by a population who have made it clear that their emotional devotion to a mythical image of the nation is more important than practical issues. Hence Boris stopping his Health Secretary from working with existing EU agencies designed to cope with pandemics.

That used to be a constant problem in a hospital I used to work in. At least 50% of bottles of hand sanitiser were nicked by alcoholics. How the fuck anybody can swallow something with Bitrex in is beyond me.

Investing though - ups and downs.
Silver lining is that some stuff might start looking like good value soon.
As long as you don’t need the money out right now, it can be ridden out. If it can’t be ridden out you’ll have bigger problems to worry about.
