the same shell is used for 135,142 and 'boost' 148mm oln widths and its just a case of changing the endcaps (and maybe the axle?).
Different hub shell between Boost/Non Boost Pro4 hubs. Can run a none boost hub in boost frame with adaptors though.

Halo do 100/135 for most, if not all, their 29er wheels. American Classic too.
If you get the right combo of hubs, Hope and DT Swiss have adapters. Hunt also seem to offer adapters for their non-boost 29er wheels (fill in some form after ordering).

Excellent, thanks for the info. Looked into Hope, Hunt, DT Swiss etc but shied away because they would cost 2/3 of what I paid for the complete bike! But I suppose I just have to accept that I’m not going to get a bargain basement pair of wheels for my needs (cheap-ish winter hack) and at least the premium stuff could be reused in future, possibly more expensive, bike investments.

Whilst we’re here, here’s another question: frame and firm has vertical dropouts and are QR as standard. Can I convert either the wheels or the frame to thru axle?! The QR are a little weak for the winter hammering they get...

If frame has vertical 10mm drop outs for quick release you cannot convert it to thru axle (142 x 12 or 135 x 12). You can use a slightly stiffer 10mm QR like the DT Swiss RWS system which is a bit stiffer that a normal QR, but you will need to convert the hub to take that type of skewer.

thanks @velosaurus, yes they are 10mm vertical dropouts so i may just replace the skewers in teh fist instance as they do feel a little cheap

Shimano closed cam QR much more effective than the open cam ones like Hope etc

Stark contrast of frame price Vs fork price there.
This is just one of the side effects of the industry constantly bringing out new 'standards'.
"* could be an excuse for a new bootzipper though...*" is exactly why they do it.
Depends on your budget but I think with Hope hubs the same shell is used for 135,142 and 'boost' 148mm oln widths and its just a case of changing the endcaps (and maybe the axle?).
