  • Ok. Have sold/am selling Rolleiflex 2.8f Planar and bits. Ricoh GXR and Lens modules, Mju ii, D700 and lenses, and thinking about one camera to replace them with...

Not shooting enough to justify super-spendy and don’t have enough to spend anything more that what I get for existing cameras. Want something smaller than D700 but good ergonomics and great low-light performance.

Mirrorless setup seems sensible - Nikon Z6 with native zoom? Canon RP with native zoom? What would you go for?

  • I could be interested in the D700 if it’s still available.

  • I’ve got a used Kata 3in1 20 in good nick you can have for £30 if you like? Same as this one. Complete with inserts and rain cover.

I’m in N15. It’s a great bag but I am just not taking enough pics to justify having it these days.

  • Anyone had or used the canon 17mm L tilt shift? Always fancied a wide tilt shift and ones come up locally (not cheap enough to just grab it lol), would be half for use on a tripod, longer exposures etc, and other half the time handheld or as a walkabout. Can imagine it handles like a prickly pear lol

  • Haven't used the 17mm but the 24, handheld is a bit of a faff tbh (at least if you want to shift, haven't done a lot of tilting myself).

  • All the Zenit bodies arrived, 4 of them are working fully(EM, TTL, 11, B) and another 6 or so look like simple fixes if I just sit down and play with the curtain adjustments.

  • Finally got around to trying a Fuji X100 via a second hand 'S'. Generally love it, apart from it's metering. Shooting RAW and it has a tendency to blow highlights, especially in high contrast photos. Seems similar to iPhone metering in this regard.

Any ideas ? It's on multi metering, wondering If I'm missing anything on set up ?
Appears to be stopping down the lens correctly, which I understand was an issue on the original X100.

  • Try setting the highlights at -1 or -2 via the Q button?

  • Doesn't seem to affect it, is it a jpg only setting ?

Tried some exposure tests by pointing cameras at a scene with a lamp in the middle.
X100S and iPhone meter (via lightmeter pro) both give f2 1/125 ISO5000
    A Nikon DSLR gives f2 1/125 ISO800.

The highlights on the lamp are blown on both the iPhone and X100S, the Nikon DSLR gets it right.

  • What metering mode are you using? I find my Fuji's are very sensitive to whether it's spot, centre weighted etc. My first move when the exposure isn't what I think it should be is to check the metering mode and go from there.

  • Do you have dynamic range set to auto? That can end you up in a higher iso that necessary.

Conversely, my OG X100 under exposes if anything.

  • Newbie
Thinking of smaller mirrorless possible of lens additions later
Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III ....Anyone have or tried .. seems good value, they have £150 off atm so it’s £350 ish or with a bigger lens package from jessops
Just wanting an upgrade from iPhone really
I have an old DLSR which is too big really , it needs to be in a bag chuckable

  • Cheers both.

@Dammit I'm using multi for metering. Tried average and it gave a similar result.
@Well_is_it DR is set to the default of 100%

Annoyingly, exposure comp doesn't work when you're shooting in manual with auto ISO as I would of been quite happy to leave it set on -1.
I'll try shooting with it some more to make sure it's not user error...

  • Also consider the Panasonic GX80 and Sony A6000 which are similar in price.

I'd probably go with the Panasonic if you want bag chuckable, the 12-32 pancake zoom it comes with is tiny and excellent.

  • If anyone has a Sony A7 going spare, I'm in the market.

  • exposure comp doesn't work when you're shooting in manual with auto ISO

    ..really?

  • Yeah. The modes on the X100 (at least on the S model) are nice in theory but aren’t that well implemented.

It has min shutter speed on auto ISO but doesn’t allow you to set anything faster than 1/125.

To get around this, the dials are great for working in manual with auto iso, but then it doesn’t allow you to change exposure comp so you might as well shoot in A/S/P.

Perhaps these are fixed in more recent models ?

  • if you tell me exactly how to configure it, I can tell you how the X100V handles it

  • There happened to be a Fujifilm expert in Jessops today when I popped in to have a look around.

He had an X-T4 with him and talked me through all the features.

It’s definitely way above my needs but my god do I want one. Will probably pull the trigger once the release date is set.

  • Fuji is like shimano when it comes to trickling down the tech. You will get the same sensor in a camera thats half the price soon.

  • Well don’t you you already get the same sensor in the X T-3?

  • No the xt-{single digit} trickles down to xt-{double digit} so on and so forth. So the xt-40 will have the same sensor.

  • I love my OM-D E-M10 III. Its great and the EZ pancake that comes with it is brilliant. It fits in a big jacket pocket, is pretty robust, and is easy to use. In my opinion the in body stabilisation is fantastic, and what sets it apart from the Panasonics. If you can get a second hand panasonic 17mm pancake (a fun lens thats reasonably fast for not that much money) its even smaller too.

    I reckon for 350 its a steal.

  • So I've decided to offload my xpro 1 and the 27mm 2.8.

    Anyone want both for £200?

  • Split lens?
