I’m currently at Muller Dairy in Bridgwater for work. Upon arrival I had to fill in a questionnaire asking had I travelled through other countries in the past 7 days, am I showing any symptoms and the like...
Went through security and needed to loo so nipped in the gents to relieve myself. Went to wash my hands and they’re out of soap and apparently the cleaners keep it in their locked cupboard and won’t be in until tomorrow afternoon.
Winning Muller!

what are the symptoms of COVID19?

The shortness of breath seems to be the main difference between that and normal flu.

I hate to support that man, but he’s possibly right.
Our basis for the rates(as I stated way back) is what is confirmable, and as such, likely to represent a symptomatic only cohort.
From this we get deaths, of which some of them are possibly not deaths due to Coronavirus (as the confirmed death definition shifted to include pneumonia-adjacent deaths a while back).
Given both of these things (especially as there is likely a significant cohort of minor/ no/ alternate mild symptomatology) the mortality rate can be seen as likely to be inflated.
So, yes 3.4% is possibly overestimated, not sure under 1% is a logical conclusion, but given that plenty of creditable sources are using a figure around 1%, its not the standard nonsense he spouts.

60% says I will get it...
Live in London... Work for a big organisation... So I suspect I will at some point. Its what the effects are.
But you're right that I'm in the mild catagory, so curious what I may feel like when I do.

Again, not the most helpful identifying characteristic. For a huge number of reasons, not just that there’s definitely crossover with the common flu on that front. Or just a bit of mild panic. Or the joys of self-selection misdiagnosis.
Think of self assessment like a flow-chart.- Does it feel like flu? If yes proceed to If no proceed to 2.
- You’re probably ok.
- Do you think anyone you know has a good chance of being a contact of C19? If yes go to 5. If no proceed to 4.
- It’s probably just the cold. Are you feeling like utter shit? Proceed to question 6.
- Speak to 111, self isolate and wait for the swab results.
6.Does this involve not being able to walk up a flight of stairs? If yes- go to 5. If no, I’m sorry it’s just the flu. Set yourself up for two weeks of misery because the flu is an absolute cunt of an illness.
I know I come across as flippant, but I feel the mainstay of dealing with this outbreak will be stopping the potential panic.

Yeh you’re right. There just seem to be many conflicting opinions, from medical sources quoted in articles, regarding face masks.

Just in Tesco in Lewisham. People panic buying all kinds of things. Bog roll and bottled water mainly but things like fresh meat too!
I've come to the conclusion that most people aren't very good at emergency preparedness

I have a follow up appointment for my knee at King’s next week that I already rearranged once. I am really not sure if I should go as they have 2 confirmed cases within the hospital and it might suggest they might have other people who are infected but don’t know yet or are just carriers etc.
I am young but I have very bad asthma that isn’t well controlled at the moment and my knee problem isn’t urgent at all as it’s been going on for years.
Last time I saw the surgeon was about 6 months ago and he said if I still have troubles in 6 months time, he’ll send me for an MRI scan and so I kind of know what he’d say in my appointment.
Tempted to call them and explain my worry, do you think they’d give a shit?
Any suggestion?

Mechanic work have dried up for the next couple of weeks (only have two or three booking).
Normally I’m fully booked for the week before Monday.

It is very easy to forget how savage real flu is.
This is what we forget.

Cooking up and freezing? But yes, it's quite weird that even outside tins/bog roll/obvious prepper stuff when I was in earlier in the week there was no veg, not much fruit. I guess that people are doing some panic buying, alongside a normal/bigger shop, but that everyone is doing it NOW and there isn't much slack in the supermarket supply chain for swings in demand. (Like first unseasonal BBQ weekend but not just selling out of sausages and rose).

Panic buy gin/whiskey and a couple of computer games..

If people are worried about running out of mains water, they should probably be worried about not having power to run their freezers.
I think you've nailed it. I think people get a little carried away and start buying more of everything and a supermarket supply chain is tailored to make sure that there is just enough on the shelves to satisfy demand to minimise wastage so it must take a while for them to adjust for an increase in demand.

Any suggestion?
If you haven't left it too late for someone else to have your slot, cancel if it makes you worry less.
If it's going to cause dead time their end I'd just get it done, taking the usual precautions.

That is more because we haven't had a decent fucking day's weather in 3 months

Have had pneumonia once and ended up in hospital. Have reduced lung capacity from birth, scary moment as the mask caused me to panic quite a few times. Twice must have been really scary.

Is the hospital closing for non essential patients?
If you are worried/or concerned, cancel and try to reschedule.

How long have you been in London ;)
We have had a few lovely days....I think.

Indeed. Surely the risk of contagion should be sending people away from public transport and on to bikes

Just checked and got my dates wrong, my appointment isn’t till 20 March so I’ll probably call them tomorrow.
They are always over subscribed, even for a 9am appointment, it’s not usual that you’d have to wait well over an hour as they also deal with all the broken bones etc from A&E the night before...

Not sure, on the news, it only says the ward where the patients were in have been sealed off.
