Is there an app that can check battery health like on macbook? Sorry for noob questions, I really don't know Apple and googling brings up a lot of contradictory and confusing stuff.

I haven't tried it, but seems like https://coconut-flavour.com/coconutbattery/ could check it for you. I assume you need to run it on a mac though with the iPad connected

You can hit the apple icon, about this Mac, system report button, then power from the list.
