  • I don't know if I'm sold on that but my colleague just told me the blue/orange looks like a mega bus seat......

  • It’s a one man show really so Dom is mega busy. It’s not personal!
    He ignores me too ;)

  • I was assuming/hoping he was just under the pump

  • I’m not a huge fan of the blue orange. The grey with an all black build should work pretty well (ie no magenta anodising)

  • Def' no magenta anodising here. Guessing there will be full image without it next week!

  • Yes very much 24/7

  • Do you have any insight into why the Secan fork doesnt have any bike-backing/load carrying features e.g. Anything Cage mounts?

Looks perfect for that sort of fast-touring stuff so seems to me at least like a bit of a missed opportunity. I look at it up against things like an RLT9 or perhaps all-steel offerings from All-City etc and keep thinking it looks nice, but..

  • No sorry. You’d need to ask Dom.

    I just ride a strael.

  • I kinda want the new Strael.

  • Full build pic up of the blue Secan on instagram. Looks great 👍

  • I’m liking the Grey/Magenta

  • Grey for me. Are you going for full build or frame only? Any build plans yet?

  • Frame and fork. Current plan is for it to replace my salsa vaya and cannondale synapse. Will use everything bar headset, dyno wheel, I’ll also upgrade the rear derailure to the new clutched ultegra.

Planning on having a road/gravel setup and an adventure setup. With different wheels. Will also give swapping between gearing a go. Vaya is running 46/30 36 and for road stuff I’ll run 50/34 32

  • I’m tossing up either the Mason Bokeh or Fairlight Secan. Looking forward o hearing how th Secan rides

  • @skinny I'm sure I saw a photo of your strael with a pump attached to the frame. Is that correct, if so which one?

  • Hey, has anybody got their Strael yet? Thinking about getting one and would love some input. Cheers.

  • @skinny has one, but he’s a bit busy riding it right now.

    I’m about to order one.

  • I’m gett my Secan frameset on Tuesday which is super exciting. Thinking about taking Wednesday of work to build it up.

  • Hi,

I have seen a few fairlights around, what are the opinions of the strael and secan? Has anyone here used the secan as a "roadie"?

I am looking to replace a bowman pilgrims and considering going something new.

    Thanks

  • I am at the moment, I’ve got a spare pair of wheels with 28mm schwalbe pro ones. It does fine and @ my weight(~95kg) the extra 1-2kgs of bike weight isn’t particularly noticeable.
The handling can be a bit slow on the road and once I get further ahead on the mortgage I’ll likely buy another road bike.

So in summary it’s a better gravel/adventure bike than a road bike, but still a perfectly good one.

  • I've just placed an order for the Secan, and it should arrive next month. My plan is to use it mainly for long solo rides on road (some multi-day trips too), plus bridleway adventures once the ground firms up a bit more.

  • Where I find it less than ideal is for fast, aggressive 80km (or less) hilly rides, if I had never ridden great road bikes before on the same roads I would be perfectly happy.

If you want a bike that can take some easy singletrack and gravel and take on ”endurancy” road rides it’s a great choice. If you never plan on running 35s or bigger than the streal would likely be a better choice.
