  • Depends what it is and how you're sitting on it.
Why do you have a new saddle and why did you pick one that is trying to penetrate you?

If it's a skinny nose one it sounds like you might be sliding forward onto the nose so it's angled too far forward at the nose. If it's a split nose Adamo, you might need to lower it at the nose. Bit tricky to give a solid answer without more info.

  • Anyone had that arse pressure mapping saddle fit thing?

  • Anything I can do about sore neck? Position is fine aside from the fact that keeping my head angled upwards so I can see gives me neck pain after a few hours.

Let me just pre-reject some "solutions":

    • replace bike/cockpit - no
    • stop looking where I'm going - no
    • belay glasses - maybe

Really what I want is stretching and/or strengthening exercises or something

  • Anything I can do about sore neck?

    new bike

  • do you wear glasses ?

  • No glasses. But sunglasses do make the issue even worse (as I have to tilt my head even further up to see under the frames)

I can't really do much with the position as the previous owner cut the steerer so unless I want a +30° 90mm stem on my carbon aero road bike I'm stuck with it.

Maybe I'll swap it for something a bit less wanky like a CAAD though

  • Have you recently started riding further/for longer? I usually get a sore neck when I come out of winter hibernation and start doing more miles. It gradually improves as I adapt to the extra time spent on the bike

  • Well, I recently broke last year's record of 0km on that bike by doing 18km today.

But it's a perennial issue. If I ride the bike more often I guess my neck strengthens up a bit and it's manageable. But any time I exceed what I'm used to it bothers my neck.

Do the guys with the slammed stems not get this issue?

  • Yoga with Adrienne or Lululemon’s series with ‘Ally Maz’ are both great, get 15-20 minutes of daily yoga in your routine.

That's been my rather simplistic approach. Occasionally sitting up to relieve any aches helps too. Does it only happen while you're riding, or does the pain carry on for some time after?

The pros, or those with the massive mamil headtubes?*

*yes, i have seen my own bikes

  • Yoga with Adrienne

Read that as "Yoga with adrenaline"

  • Slightly better than "Yoda with adrenaline" I guess...

  • It lingers a little while after I ride too. Probably a bit of muscle strain/DOMS?

The pros, or those with the massive mamil headtubes?

If the only options are "pro" and "MAMIL" then this forum's about to have an existential crisis

@Tijmen thanks for the recommendation, sounds like a sensible thing to start doing. I'm about as flexible as a girder so a good idea regardless of my neck problems

  • I googled ‘hardcore yoga gif’ hoping to find yoga with explosions in the background or some such. I feel very naive now.

  • Can you not raise your bars? Flip stem, shorter stem, different angle on the stem?
If you wear glasses, make sure the frames aren't in your way so you're angling your head to see.

  • Probably could get a few mm of adjustment vertically. I don't think it'll be enough to solve the issue though. But I'll try that, and the yoga, and actually riding the bike, and see how I get on

  • 5mm can be the difference between racing 100mi TT and lying on the side of the road in a skinsuit stretching. (allegedly)

  • Look at saddle selection and saddle angle (particularly if you're not able/willing/prepared to adjust anything else)....if you are rolling your pelvis away from perineum pressure then a flexed lower or even mid back will be making your neck extend more= more pain more early on in a ride.

  • Saddle was definitely positioned wrong, on top of all the other issues. Impressive that you figured that out!

  • Impressive that you figured that out!

read who it is you cunt

  • I know but it's still impressive to me that he figured that out from my handful of shitty unclear comments

  • Definitely my favourite comment of the day
