  • The best thing about that article is the URL ...

  • Yeah I liked that.

Separately, one thing that I'm hoping for from this whole coronavirus thing is that China may use its authoritarianism for unintentional good and get to work on the illegal animal trade and general food standards. If it can be proven that it has come from poor standards or illegality (and this can't be covered up), they will be doing a massive damage limitation exercise, and have the (albeit repressive) powers to properly fuck with the pangolin/kitten/bear/dog harvesters. An ill wind, and all that...

  • I've just noticed that the Fauxmagerie, which started in Brixton, has moved to Cheshire Street, E2.

I think I'll pay them a visit sometime soon, as it no longer involves going south of the river. :)

  • Reviews please. I heard that it's basically a cafe, which isn't what I expected when I heard about it

  • Well, if you look at the web-site ...

    https://shop.lafauxmagerie.com/

... it looks very much as if they sell a fairly large range of things.

Obviously, that may just be a web front and they may not actually have it all in the shop, but I wouldn't be surprised if they couldn't yet fill up a whole shop with even this many products, those all being small-scale artisanal efforts, and had space for a caff alongside them.

I'll report back if I go (but don't let me stop anyone from pre-empting me).

  • The web page has four cheeses, two of which are sold out.

  • You're evidently not getting it displayed correctly--I see a selection of 30 cheeses (two of which are sold out), plus more range under the other headings.

  • I guess so! Here's hoping!

  • The website seems to add arbitrary filters for some reason. You can get the full range if you edit the URL https://shop.lafauxmagerie.com/collections/cheese/

  • Did someone share a vegan chilli recipe on here not too long ago? Made with smoked tofu. Trawled through some pages and searched but couldn’t find anything. Probably got it somewhere else. CSB

  • Not the same one but have made the Bosh reciept a few times now and it's very good.

    https://www.bosh.tv/recipes/ultimate-chilli

  • Be good to have a recipe bit on the first post to go back too. End up trawling for ages when I probably don't need too.

  • Thanks mate. Not the one but it’ll do

  • Hahaha... this genuinely made me laugh.

Recipe also looks good, is it?

  • I think so... but I clearly can’t be trusted to remember basic things so should you trust me?

It was actually my wife who requested I make it again. I remember it being quite simple to do and enjoying it. I think I made it with smoked tofu but the recipe just states normal which might explain me not being able to find it. Or it might be the decades of recreational drug abuse. Who knows? Not me

  • It was me.

    ha

  • Hesitating to write this here as I don't want to fuel the debate again whether it's ok to eat at big shops that also sell meat, but..
..stopped at a McDonald's the other day while on the road, and remembered they actually do a vegan "Royal TS" now (not sure you have this in the UK). Gotta say it was pretty good!

And (sorry, also only for people in Germany) I bought some very nice chocolate at (drugstore) "dm" the other day - it's organic and vegan, and doesn't break the bank.. very tasty!

  • Tried the Lidl oat milk, far too salty for me. Back to Oatly it is.

  • Tried the Lidl oat milk, far too salty for me. Back to Oatly it is.

Oatly (or one of them at least) has Vit D and Calcium added too which Aldi and Lidl versions don't in my experience.

  • Do they fry the vegan burgers in the same fat as the meat ones on Germany, too, though?

  • The outcome of the Jordi Casamitjana case:

    https://www.theguardian.com/money/2020/mar/02/ethical-vegan-jordi-casamitjana-settles-tribunal-case-against-charity

It looks as if the LACS eventually saw sense and that it was basically sitting on a governance failure.

I'm still in two minds about this 'protected belief' thing, though.

I actually had the impression that they are pre-cooked and just get heated up in some sort of oven.
They definitely did not feel as if they had been freshly fried, they were sort-of ‚dry‘.
