Use the OP’s now that you have them, but change those conti tubes for some nice latex ones.

Hi Maki, love your Somec! Have been looking for a frame for a number of years without success. Any advice where to locate something like ‘80s ‘90s Somec frame? Please let me know. Cheers, 3aesthete

Open pave cut up in the top strip like cheese.

Open Pave are nice, and last well until they get thin, then you'll get 100 punctures a ride.
GP5000 will be faster and last longer. In nearly every way other than aesthetics a better tyre but something in me still likes the Open Pave -

I run OP's all the time in fall/winter/spring shit weather here in Belgium, for the roads around here they have been great. Generally get 2 seasons out of them, depending how much I get outside. Will switch to Corsa Control next.

Ah yeah alright, I'll try the OP for a while seeing as I had some already. Thanks for the feedback. Also still think they look way nicer / graphics are not designed by someone who has played too much "Need for Speed". The GP4000s II on my 653 bike have lasted amazingly well, but want something different for this build.

Picked up a rough looking example of the Cannondale I lusted after in my youth but could never afford. Put in a very speculative bid that was, to my surprise, accepted. Despite the decals looking haggard and the frame having lost its sheen, it seems in really good nick. Also came with original Time full carbon fork. Going to strip the decals and fully polish this weekend.

Currently working on this project. Frame with a lot of patina from the 60's/70's that will be built with a early generation campagnolo record group, universal brakes, bar end shifters,...
Frame was very rusty and dirty, but structually fine. Cleaned off all the rust and coated the frame with 2K clear varnish to preserve it. All parts that are going onto the frame are pretty battered, but will be thoroughly cleaned and serviced. Feels like preparing him for his retirement party.

Latest stupid bike. Fork doesn’t work as the crown rubs on the headtube. Silly integrated crown race. So stock one back on and need a fancier seatpost & saddle

And a brake. Good thing you got this built in time for the snow

Vittoria Open pave.... old faithfuls had a few sets over the years. The green ones should be in a tyre hall of fame

Really wondering why my experience is so vastly different with the Open Paves, or any Vittoria tyre for that matter. Corsa and Corsa controls both having the same problem with slashes in the top and subsequent punctures. Is this because of Aussie roads? Surely UK roads suck more?
Every time I try I just get about 500k out of them and then punctures ... At which point I go "fuck it, back to Contis" ...

OP last about 5000-7000 miles for me, when you get two punctures in the space of 3 months, then it's time to change them. I have 4-5 pairs left, I'll try another tyre then...

5000-7000 miles
I don't think I have ever gotten anywhere near that on any tyre ... maybe the WTB byways, but I haven't gotten that far on them yet.

Sounds good to me, thank you :)
Bike arrived. Still some tinkering to do. Will post further updates in the Cannondale thread.

Quick q: Is this normal on a carbon frame? Or should I be concerned about damage / weakening of the clamping area?

Looks like the you’ll just have to rotate the clamp 180 degrees so the slot fits over that protrusion - keeps road crap out of it as well.

Looks like it's intended to be like that, what frame?
