My understanding is that it is the same as the Hubei virus, but the virus has evolved while it has been circulating in Italy suggesting it has been there for some time. Is that right?
To Fox's point, I would assume a necessary part of a containment strategy is identifying cases in the first place. Neil Ferguson has estimated that probably only 1 in 4 cases outside China are being identified. However, the length of time it appears to have been circulating below the radar in Italy suggests there were not great screening measures in place.
A valid question was raised on a Radio 4 programme this morning but I'm not sure it was answered as I couldn't listen to the end. There are now 23 confirmed UK cases and rising but is that right. How many of these 23 have recovered or are they all still close to or at death's door?
Yes there are 23 confirmed cases as above link.
Not many seem to get to deaths door, although presumably a higher percentage will be in early testing...?
