  • Thanks @mdcc_tester, just gave that a go but still the same noise.

Having a closer look it’s the inside of the chain rubbing against the cog. So that’s a chain line issue? Looks like the chain needs to move like 2mm inward toward the wheel.

So could I add a bigger spacer between the bottom bracket and crank or hub and cog?

Another couple videos and a photo that may or may not help at all:

*can you tell I have no idea what I’m talking about 😕

  • @efb @Aroogah - how long did you need to wait for your Asgard sheds to turn up? I've been quoted 5 weeks for delivery (with installation), and really hoping that it doesn't take that long...

  • I think you can thread a fixed cog on either way round. Looks like it might be designed to work reversed

(Normally you'd do it this way to protect the spokes??? But here it looks like the hub already has a spacer built in [and no spokes either])

  • I just checked - it was 4-5 weeks estimate for me. I think it took about 3 weeks or so.

  • Cool - thanks for that. Hopefully same for me.

  • Eye health question. Pre-edit: I am not looking here for a diagnosis, more advice on who it would be best to go to; GP? Specialist? Specsavers?

I am overdue a re-test for my bins, but I'm getting a weirder symptom than normal. Usually I know it's time for an eye test when I get more frequent migraines. They are usually triggered more when I'm tired or have been looking at a screen for too long. I get the usual loss of peripheral vision/flashy lights out fo the corner of my eyes, that kind of then, then the headache and sickness kicks in.

This time though, I have a twitching in my left upper eyelid. Probably more of a persistent flutter than a twitch. One of the regular migraines set in yesterday and has mostly gone. But now i have a blind spot, seemingly restricted to my left eye. It's like I looked at a small light for too long. That's kind of what the loss of peripheral vision is like, but this is more focused, and only in the left eye. The migraine stuff is eye-agnostic.

    What do? Who see?

  • Also, with the migraines, the vision loss is only temporary. Once the migraine actually kicks in, I can see perfectly fine. This is seemingly persistent, even after the migraine has worn off.

  • Mate get an appointment with your GP booked, they'll refer you to whatever specialist you need. Blind spots and loss of vision are pretty serious so I'd want a doctor's opinion.

  • Earliest GP appt is next Tuesday morning. Will see if I can get an eye test somewhere with those new fancy machines earlier than that.

  • Can you not get an earlier one when you explain the vision loss? Or if you ring first thing in the morning? Getting checked out at an optometrist isn't a bad idea but they'll probably tell to go see your GP as well.

  • Optometrist booked for Friday afternoon, again, earliest slot I could find. Will try to call the GP tomorrow morning.

  • If you're concerned Western Eye Hospital has an emergency service https://www.imperial.nhs.uk/our-services/ophthalmology/ophthalmology-accident-and-emergency

There's a pretty good chance your GP will just send you there anyway, that's what mine told me to do.

  • For my eye problems I was referred my optician to my GP and then on to Moorfields (the clinic at St Georges Tooting) but then mine was a chronic not an acute problem.

  • Thanks all, I'll see what the optician and GP combined say. But if it worsens I'll head over to Western.

  • Almost exactly the same for me as above. Caught us out in fact as had expected another 2 weeks wait, then suddenly received notification that delivery and fitting would be a few days away.

  • Excellent. Thanks for that. Very encouraging. These bikes need to be moved before the estimated delivery or I’ll be in a bit of trouble.

  • Does that mean there’s nothing I can do to adjust the chainline? I’m pretty clueless on this issue...

  • Usually, if you can put the sprocket on the other way round, it'll have what I can best describe, as an integral collar or escutcheon or flange on one side of the sprocket - meaning that the teeth are not axially central in relation to the overall width of the sprocket - they're off-centre - so may give you a couple of mil in the direction that you want. Or not. All of which sounds way more complicated than it actually needs to and is relatively straightforward if you look at / dismantle it / turn it around and try it.

  • Did you change something recently? Worn cog? Worn chainring? Bent chain ring?

The chain looks 1/8" and the cog 3/32" so some movement is expected.

Also, chain line seems off, crankset/BB is too long.

  • Thanks @JurekB

No it just arrived yesterday, brand new, so nothing should be worn and I haven’t changed anything.

Would I have more luck then if I switched the cog to 1/8”? Or if the chain line is off, will the outcome be the same regardless?

  • Who set it up on arrival?

  • It arrived part assembled, so flywheel, and drivetrain was all together.

Maybe I’m just expecting too much, was just hoping I could get it running smoother and quieter.

  • hoping I could get it running smoother and quieter

Have a look at the relationship between chain and sprocket lock ring. Sometimes the chain hits the lock ring if you have a very small sprocket, and that interferes with the meshing and generates a lot of noise. If that's what's happening, you could try a bigger sprocket, a chain with less plate height (e.g. 8-speed dérailleur chain, if the sprocket and chainring are both 3/32") or a better designed lock ring

  • For similar symptoms my GP sent me straight to Moorfields A&E, it wasn't a referral he just told me to walk in.i have subsequently had 4 rounds of surgery on my affected eye, but my sight was saved.

  • What was the issue?
