  • Mud clearance isn't going to be much of a problem in Morocco surely? And I'm imagine the larger diam fast race tyres like @umop3pisdn mentioned would be up there on the list of what to use, like a load of people using Mezcals in SRMR. So yeah, to me definitely seems a decent option.

  • I think I'd want a 650b specific bike if I was doing an ultra race!

  • Why? I mean, it's unlikely I'll actually buy new wheels but I just saw this as an interesting twist on the 26er. I think I'd like something more like the Kinesis Tripster I had - it could take 650B and that'd give tyre clearance for something like 50mm which is wider than I used to mountain bike with!

  • Literally zero knowledge of their weather or the route.

  • Just leave the 26” wheels on and get some nice fast rolling tyres. Switching wheel size is a waste of time.

  • Wheels, seatpost and bars acquired.
When payday comes around I'll start the hunt for an appropriately stubby stem, some decent shimano brakes and some tyres.

  • I was thinking of swapping my ikons for something knobblier if Rhys be of any interest?

Wanted bits, give me a shout if you have anything

@AlexD sorry for not getting back! I think I'll be going for something a little more rugged too

  • No problemo. They've been fine through the summer, but I do notice the lack of grip on the front when there's anything wet under them. Ardents all round for me, I reckon.

  • So. Close.

  • Looks very good! I just bought a 26" inbred frame myself so extra fun to follow this:)

  • That’s starting to look pretty fun. What’s the travel on those forks? I’ll eventually get round to picking up some longer travel forks for my 456 one day.

  • where the updates

  • Under my desk. Picked up the brakes on weds finally.

  • @AlexD and by some weird arc @Belagerent have twisted my arm into buying a bag of bolts for this. I keep remembering more small bits it needs:
    -qr seatpost clamp = dropper?
-bar-ends that make my knock of esi grips look more like esi grips

  • PEDALS

  • Still have 3 frames (well a dismantled frame, a frame with a stuck crappy suspension post and complete bike in poor condition, with a rear rim worn through on one side and a sieze front disk brake) and still got no further.

  • I need to get a qr seat post clamp for mine too - keep forgetting. Although I may just end up getting a dropper for it!

  • Progress is progress

  • Enough to complete the build?

  • If I remember to pack a saddle and my headset press before work tomorrow I can at least make it look like a bike again and take a pic.
Currently trying to rustle up a few people for a planet x order so I can get a seatpost clamp.

  • Ace, be good to see it finished & out n about.

  • The unfortunate truth with this bike is I have nowhere to put it, which has undoubtedly put me off progressing the build.
There'll be an amount of time it'll be around but I think it'll get shipped off up to Northumberland.

  • Ah, complicated. Still be a nice one to store for the future.

  • Far too sensible. Think about all the endless laps of Prestwich and Clayton Vale you could be doing*... and the odd jaunt over to Hope, Marple, Littleborough/Hebden...

*I am secretly looking forward to this and building some 26+ wheels for when I move back nearer the city.
