Well, PHE won't be tied into the Euro Surveillance system so you could argue it will...

Jeez. I really despair for humanity at times.

Somebody needs to tell him this is a coronavirus which is why it shouldn't be capitalised...

Semester start in SNU, South Korea is postponed by 2 weeks because of the virus. There are about 30 confirmed infections but the geographical closeness to China seems to make a huge wave there.
I'm about to do a semester there starting in March so that'll be interesting.Oh well, it kinda exploded over the weekend in Korea. There have been over 700 new confirmed cases, although mostly in Daegu (about 250km south of Seoul).
I'm currently getting thousands of emails from SNU with updates and actions. There seem to be 2 research assistants in the college I will be in who have been in contact with infected people and placed "themselves under self-quarantine". -

It's just as well that they had the good sense to leave a clear evidence trail in the process of creating their secret conspiracies.

14 days since I got back from the Veneto region and no sniffles. Think I'm in the clear.

I'm at a conference and I shook hands with a woman from Lombardy yesterday. She told me after the fact. Looking forward to finding out what this virus is like.

Iāve just been issued with a box of tissues and some hand gel at my desk. FFS

We have a sign at reception asking visitors not to shake hands and sanitisers and tissues scattered throughout the office.
Most people work remotely. Next stage will be to ask our admin staff to do so as well.

I visited Daegu 18mths ago on a cycling trip across Korea. Main observations as follows;
- not clear which bus terminal goes to Seoul.
- quite industrial

Interesting read and glad its cropped up, a lot of supply chains for lighting and furniture for high end brands are located in the Lombardy region - economic impact could be huge for some industry leaders;

We've got a hand sanitiser thing by the ground floor lifts... in the other London office. The one I'm in we've been left to fester. I'm all for this tbh

With recent developments in italy. It's been an absolute bloodbath in the stock markets around the world.

I asked to have a sanitiser dispenser installed weeks ago in the office but they wouldnāt do it because it might create unfairness for the other offices in the same building. Well if the other offices are so worried then they could have requested the same thing. The whole unit is only about Ā£30.
I have never had such cheap things rejected. FFS.

Couple of students at my sons college were in Milan at 1/2 term .... told by NHS to self isolate
-
• #644
What's the work situation with self isolation?
You can self certify sick for 1 week, more than that you need a medical certificate.
Which requires you to go to the doctor's.Also, so many people do not get sick pay, and SSP would only pay about Ā£150 for the 2 weeks not in work (if it's even covered by sick pay)

https://www.acas.org.uk/coronavirus
There's no legal ('statutory') right to pay if someone is not sick but
cannot work because they've:been told by a medical expert to self-isolate
had to go into quarantine
But it's good practice for their employer to treat it as
sick leave and follow their usual sick pay policy or agree for the
time to be taken as holiday. Otherwise there's a risk the employee
will come to work because they want to get paid. They could then
spread the virus, if they have it. -

Maybe Trump'll get it. He's old and in poor health.

Could you imagine the conspiracy theories if a 'Chinese virus' turned out to be the end of him...
-
• #649
Weāre asking people to work from home. Which is fine if you can, of course - I donāt know what the best practice is for non-desk jockeys

I was in the hotel over the road from the Tenerife lockdown, 10 days ago.
Sadly work don't deem that as a problem so I'm good to head in.
Almost every Daily Mail reader who thinks Brexit means all the Chinese will be sent home along with all the BAME people. They also think, despite the best efforts of Steve Walsh, that this is only spread by Chinese people.
