Pub Suggestions / Recommend Pubs for...

Quite a few of my favourites in there. Earl of Essex, Wenlock Arms, Auld Shillelagh, Coach & Horses Soho, Chesham Arms, Faltering Fullback. Came up on here lately, but would have put the Adam and Eve in over the Spread Eagle for sure. Star and Garter is my go-to West End pub. Love it, love it, love it. and great to see the Angel in Bermondsey in there. I first visited that pub on an LFGSS ride. On a sunny evening, nothing can beat being sat in the warm sunshine with a pint, looking back at Tower Bridge. Excellent, excellent spot.

I'm half-heartedly boycotting Sam Smiths pubs and this is the one I miss most.

I'm not around there, why the boycott?

Not comfortable supporting the dubious working practices of the owner (often half-excused as being "eccentric"). Quite a bit of chat in the news thread recently.

Only joking, the pubs round North Clapham are full of poshos but I only ever really drank in Greenwich, the pub by the covered market. Near a second hand bookshop.

The Marksman used to be just a normal old man boozer. Nothing special at all. Smelled of Pledge. Then the chef from St John's in Clerkenwell bought it and started knocking out nettle soup for £19.

I'm going to be staying in Streatham for a couple of weeks and Penge for a couple of months after that, suggestions for nice pubs would be appreciated!

The Manor Arms and for a cheap pint the Crown and Sceptre used to be a decent Spoons but haven't been since reopened.

Hand in Hand is meant to be alright since reopening too

The Goldsmiths and the Alexandra are the two best pubs in Penge.

There’s also Three Hounds bottle shop by Clock House station, which has some beers on draft and some seating. They are about to move to new, larger premises a few doors down.

There’s a new bottle shop on Penge High St, but up towards Penge West station. Not been myself but it’s run by a parent at my daughters’ school. He looks like he should run a craft beer establishment.

I spent countless afternoons drinking in the Sekforde Arms before it got smartened up. I never thought I’d see it on a list of the best pubs in London.

Anyone got a recommendation for a nice, quiet pub in either Peckham, Elephant and Castle or anywhere in between?

The best quiet pubs in Peckham are along Peckham Rye. Spent plenty of time in these two in my youth - good for drinking/chatting and eating (Herne over Clockhouse). There's also 'The Rye' which is closer to Peckham itself, but not as good IMO. I can make some reccos in Dulwich, too if useful.

Not sure about Elephant, but if you can walk 10 minutes down the road to Borough, there are loads I like and frequented regularly when I used to work on Great Suffolk Street. These are the best of the bunch in my experience. Borough Market has some good spots, but busier.

The Lord Clyde possibly my favourite pub of all time. Haven't been in too long, maybe it's time.
