  • Should I go for a surface laptop 2, a Dell XPS 13 9343 with QHD and touchscreen, or Dell XPS 15 9550 FHD? These are all used.

    1. Surface laptop 2- Intel Core i7-8650U • 8GB DDR RAM • 256GB SSD €750
    2. XPS 13 9343- Intel i7-5600U 8GB RAM Memory 256GB SSD Storage Drive 4K QHD
      display - €600
    3. Dell XPS 15 9550 Laptop FHD Screen i7 6700HQ, 16GB RAM, 512GB,GTX 960M (84wh Battery)-€700
    4. Dell XPS 9560 FHD i5-7300HQ/Nvidia GeForce Gtx 1050 Ti 4gb Gddr5/128gb M.2 Ssd + 1tb Hdd/8gb Ddr4 Ram (Battery: 55Wh, currently 48Wh capacity left (87%) - €700

There's pros and cons to each so I'm having trouble deciding. The surface has the nice screen, good keyboard and 3:2 aspect ratio, but awful I/O and wouldn't really be repairable or be able to do a battery swap.
The xps 13 is small and portable and has a nice screen, but is a bit older than the others.

I'm a computing student so doing a fair bit of programming and college project work. I want a laptop because the desktops in class can be a bit hit or miss, logging on each class takes quite a while and just for ease of having everything in the same place.

  • How often do you have to move it around? I have a XPS 13 and love it, but the glossy screen is annoying (minor). I feel like the high pixel density and minimal bezels more than makes up for the slightly smaller screen than a 15", and is much more portable.

Also, could you use a monitor from college, even if the desktop is garbage?

  • I missed out on a locker this year so I'll have to bring it in and out each day, and I move classroom a few times a day. I don't think I'd be able to plug into the monitors. Some of them are all in ones and some aren't even widescreen! I have looked at a portable secondary screen but one thing at a time haha

I've seen some nice i7-5500U 1440p touchscreen 3rd gen x1 carbons on ebay for ~€430, but they have german keyboards, I'm considering it though. I guess I could get some small stickers done or a replacement keyboard (or maybe keycaps?) at some stage. Or the surface just went down to €650.
