Strange mix, indeed...

Yeah it is an entry level frame, seat post was what caught my eye. Single digit calipers as well. Like you said @vp1337 seatpost was minty.

My old MB1 I picked up as a frameset from a bike coop for a tenner. It's got a mish mash of various Deore/LX/XT bits and some nice Salsa and Ringle bits

Is there a consensus on a good style of handlebar for a singlespeed commuter retro MTB?
This came with 56cm flat bars and I'm not sure if they feel quite right when beanzing it uphill in 42×16.
Tried to search but mostly found threads about those trendy loop bars for off-roading.
Could just get some bar ends, of course.

How about some swept bars like On-One OG, Mike or Mary?

Thanks. I'll look into one of those with a quill adapter.

For 25.4 clamp there is also Humpert Ergotec Boomerang on PX for a tenner.

I hadn't seen that one. Thanks. Might be even better if it saves swapping out the stem.

How about Sim Works getaround? They are wide, and give a better hand position while preserving the reach. I like mine on my old Rockhopper.

Thanks for the suggestion. They look nice; but at £59 are possibly a bit too spendy for this bike

My vote is for quills stem adapter, spacer to set the height without making the stem look anaemic, cheapy eBay stem and Ergotec/Humpert bars in whatever sweep & rise is your favour:

Fixed this one for my son. An early nineties Colnago Maxim.

Don't need it, don't know what to do with it but just can't turn 'em down. 90s Marin number 7: a 1990 Palisades Trail in pretty poor health. Excuse shitty seller's photo.

You can't simply turn down a Marin, especially in this colour!

I nearly got one of these for a steal last year but it had gone before I could get there, same matching bar and stem too. Great colours and purchase!
Bloody hell that seatpost worths more than my entire bike fleet... Seems pristine too.
