  • WTF? How and Why are my first questions to this? Is this @amey ?

  • its a stale bike, I saw it more than a month ago

  • I guess this answers my suspicion of whether or not replacing the stock suspension block for a solid one is detrimental to the integrity of the overall strength of the seatpost.

  • what do you weight? How high out do you have the telescopic?

  • 13st, and only an inch (Max) of the telescopic. Maybe it’s all too much for so little give.

  • hmmm, how old is it? it looks somewhat rusty / the clamp shows signs of that too..

  • It’s 2nd hand, been riding it almost 2 years, but admittedly could do with more love from me

  • I’ve got a couple of seatposts standard and extended that I’m looking to get rid of if anyone needs one, before I post them in my clear out for sale thread..

  • In people’s experiences of riding their Bromptons daily, how often would you have to replace the wheels and how is wet riding with them?

Trying to talk myself out of getting disc brakes but tempted to upgrade the drive train...

  • I had a few customers in bristol who rode 10-15 miles 5 days a week year round, probably did the rims every 8-12 months. Its hillier than london though.

Disc is amazing, but it is an additional cost.. feel free to head to SJS, we have demos you can test, will have an 18/20" disc rohloff demo too soon ;)

  • I've done approx 7,000 miles in London on mine in 3 1/2 years, all weathers. I had to replace the rear rim 15 months ago, the front is still going strong. Keeping the rims and the brake blocks clean is good practice.

Speaking of which, the SwissStop BXP pads are highly recommended.

  • In other news, I've had no more slippages on the rear hub, so looks like taking the driver assembly out and cleaning that all up has done the trick. Not going to bother stripping the whole thing down.

    This!

  • How much would it cost for an Alfine 8/11 build with no discs?

  • Stock bike + £899 for 8, £1155 for 11.

    This!

I now feel on edge if I don't have a pair of spare pads in the house. Are now on all bikes except the Brompton (you know they will be on soon)

  • No salmon koolstop love?

  • Words, taken from me...

  • My last Brompton dealer fitted Aztec Road System brake blocks, which work quite well. Any ideas whether the SwissStop BXP pads will fit the Aztec carriers, when the time comes to replace the original pads?

  • yeah no issue, might need to push a little harder / grease the INSIDE lightly if they do not slide straight in.

  • Cheers, that's good to know, I'll try the SwissStop BXP pads next.

  • What do people advise/use for lights (non-Dynamo) and luggage for the Brompton?

  • cateye 1200 front on the minimods mount, rear, cateye rapid x top of extended post and a X-lite 100 on the saddle rails.

Luggage, T bag, all else is inferior. New Borough bag, rear pockets are useless.

  • Luggage-wise I like Carradice: City Folder M if you want the kitchen sink, Stockport if it's just laptop and lunch. Tweed editions are nice but pricey (though still only about half of what the Brompton Game Bag costs!), and for any of the Carradice bags you'll need to buy a frame unless you've already got one.
