    I spoke to our builder yesterday who was here to finish a couple of bits off and he recommended: fit the skirting behind the pipe on the left as it just fits underneath; and butt the skirting up to the pipe on the right as they're about the same height, and then paint the pipe white.

    I love the curve but I'm not looking forward to trying to do skirting around it.

    In that situation I would use a technique called kerf bending to get it round the curve. It was mentioned upthread (can't remember who said it) with regards to the picture rail. This is how you do it:

    But obviously in your case you'd be cutting from the front. Once the board is in situ you'll still have to get busy with the filler and sandpaper but it will give you a good fit.
