I never peel carrots am I doing it wrong?
-

Did you just try to splain peeling carrots to me?
Man. I've been peeling carrots for more years than I care to remember.
I once peeled a carrot on a recon mission in Glyndebourne with one hand and conversating with the queen. Do you know how insulting your "this pointy bit does this" is? If I were you I'd sleep with one eye open my friend. I will skull fuck your potatoes through their rotten eyes while strangulating your broad beans.
Just you watch yourself. -

Yeah this, skin on vegetables is (generally) the best bit
-

Also the bit that retains the most chemicals if not organic, extra flavourful

Mixed seafood, Venere (black) rice last Saturday night. Clams, squids, prawns and mussels with cherry tomatoes, shallots, chilly flakes and parsley.
Would again.

Pepper mills. Which brands last?
Last time I had to do this was 2008. After replacing pepper mills about once a year we got Mason and Cole because of the lifetime warranty. Now it's busted and they won't replace it because I don't have an 11 year old receipt.
Slightly revised question: which brands last and aren't Mason and Cole?

Lots of people rate Peugeot mechanisms which are used in many manufacturers mills

If you get Peugeots go for the clear varnish ones. The white paint on ours has started to flake after barely a year.

I bought a T&G CrushGrind salt and pepper mill set 13 years ago and they are still going strong.
Not cheap but they were bought to last a lifetime.
They may not make this version now but the ceramic grinder mechanism is still used in their new stuff.

Just get a pestle and mortar. Smash up a week’s worth of pepper in 10 seconds and look like a fucking hard man in the process
-
• #29121
Speaking of mortar and pestle, anybody have a link to that style where the pestle looks like an upside down mushroom? I've used a friend's version and it works really well, 'course being who they are they have no idea where they got it...

That's what we've been doing since the M&C one broke. Pharmaceutical pestle and mortar as well, for that molecular gastronomy vibe. But it's a bit pretentious offering your guests a little bowl of ground pepper to take a pinch.

I've had a WMF ceramic one since about 1999. Aren't Peugot those stupid ones you
have to keep tightening on the top?
Have a word with yourself...
