Yeah the gloss dial has a formula which is more prone to cracking if I remember correctly. That's why quite a few have the combination of cracked and gloss when searching. Think the gloss dial variant wasn't produced for long and I guess this causes the premium. I'm sure regal as info too.
Kind of the situation with most rare collectors things I guess. I always think of it like the rare notes and coins. If they produce it with an error, at the time its regarded as a fault so quickly discontinued and amended but then they're the rare ones, so the fault is a plus.

I saw a couple in David Duggans shop some while ago and was surprised to learn of the premium.
It looked like a crackle glaze paint effect to me .. pretty though .
