How does this"supply and demand" really work?The duo who won the 2019 Nobel Prize in economics wrote a pretty decent book. They discuss your question in one of the chapters. Their conclusion is that immigration increases wages for everyone but the absolute bottom few percents of the labour market. And even for those guys there is a good chance to improve their station over the medium to long term, as someone else is now doing the shittest jobs while they have better language skills and local know how that can set them on a path to better jobs.

Simple me would think increase minimum wage to 21K with strict rent controls, strict exploitation controls and lots of house building without the xenophobia works too.
No doubt that's as simple, and therefore wrong, as the "shut the door" ideas.
