Is the max speed a gearing issue? Most electric cars are single speed so have excellent acceleration but run out of oomph sooner than an equivalent powered ICE car (besides the Porsche Taycan which has two gears).
Teslas can do >250mph so its probably just a cost cutting thing. You definitely don't need to do 80+mph on the motorway, I just feel like having the option to get out of trouble would be safer
