  • Fair! That’s why we have tonnes of parts and frame parts!

  • You guys are doing helluva job.

    THAT Rolhoff Brompton is proof!

  • You have my heart.

Got a purple metallic and gloss black lacquer lined up for this years Rohloff demo bikes! The purple one is going to be swanky.

  • I know of the colour you speak of. Seen a few in flesh, go crazy with it! Need disco lights on the trade stand IMO...

  • The purple will be full black edition, hydro disc, S type, “lightweight” swanky.

The gloss black lacquer will be more for touring, mid rise bar, brooks, probably calliper brake so we have one of each, although I might build 3 this year because...

  • As @r.hobbs has sent, but with a new saddle (Fabric Line...) and SPDs now.

Purple really is the best colour, gets all the comments!

  • Kudos to you, great choice for the build! Alfine IMO is the best cost to gears and yeah fingers crossed I'll be building something similar pretty soon.. Just another 8 weeks for the frame...

  • Lightweight Rolhoff, those 2 don't go in the same sentence no?

  • What colour do you want? I could sift through the hundreds.. ;)

    Kinetics fork and triangle?

  • The last two were 12.9 and 13.24 kg with no effort to be light. I’d like to get around 11kg? Without loosing any functionality.

  • Achievable, you'll probably got to go all Ti as far as you can go, lightweight crankset, headset, saddle, seatpost, bars, tyres, tubes and pedals?

You know what they say about being crazy right... I say do it!

  • Shame Vostok is no more... well no contact for months, outstanding orders etc.

We shall see how we go, 12kg Rohloff disc is doable.

  • Kinetics fork and triangle for sure.

Got an old frame I could use instead of the new one, so a bit undecided really and in some way the 2 months lead time is much welcomed, a buffer to sort out the indecisiveness!

  • Just use a B75 frame... you checked the pricing on those?!

  • I did, not the best parts, so flogging off unwanted bits won't make sense.

I'll work on my 2 Bromptons right now and see what happens when the 3rd arrives.

What I'm certain is Di2 Alfine, Kinetics and hydros are firm on the list!

  • If you work for a dealer you can buy the frame only... £190 rrp instead of £280. Worth a Saturday shift for a few weeks ...

  • Hmmmm... When did this happen? IIRC frames are ONLY available as a replacement for broken or warranty? I'll look it up, cheers man!

  • You mad? Most frame parts are on the trade platform, just click order.

They are only allowed to be sold as you outline to customers...

  • I usually deal with Shimano or Campagnolo stuff, should spend more time on the Brommie site eh?

  • Just placed an order for some MKS EZY pedals after failing to solve some nasty creaking noises from the stock pedals. I feel like it’s Christmas Eve!

  • Just wondered what people thought of the Alfine Conversions as I did not quite like the gear changing on 6 speed I was testing; albeit maybe it was just because it was heavily used and quite old?

I never got on with the 2-speed derailleur part of the 6-speed Brompton. After a month or two of commuting the changer would become unreliable. It seemed like the spring was too weak and the pusher pivot became clogged up easily. Two separate trips to the Brompton dealer, only improved things temporarily. Mine was from the first implementation (with the SRAM hub gear) so perhaps things have improved, but I regularly read of others who also had problems with reliability of the two-speed mechanism.

In the end, I converted it to an SA 3-speed set up which has been trouble free. From the empirical tests I've read, the 3-speed hub gears are also the most efficient of the internally geared hubs. I just wish they would make the highest gear the direct drive. I can't comment of the Affine as I have not tried one.

  • This is very accurate to most of my findings. Stock options - 3 speed rules.

2 speed is a clever design but needs work to finesse - something Brompton have not done. The new shifters/anchorage do not help to resolve the fundamental issues.

  • 2 speed derailleur horribly unreliable in my experience!
