One thing that makes me laugh about the "taken out of context" line, is that from what I've read it is the context of where and how some of these statements were made that makes them so inappropriate.

For eg if it was someone relaying what he said during a uni tutorial/pub/similar at that age it could well be that he was just taking up a contrary point for the purpose of argument.
