Any thoughts on wider, flared drops on a cargolite bike?
-
• #4230
There's quite a few drop bar cargo bikes around (many omniums), width and flare is more a personal preference (and potential interference with cargo area maybe?). Microshift make both STIs and bar end shifters for the Alfine.

I'm certainly tempted.

You were running on flower power today anyway. :)

Would definitely interesting to hear your thoughts if you do it (would also like drops on my eventual cargo bike thingy)

So you think even bars and stem don't necessarily have to be any more sturdy than usual?
The only thing I’d say is any flex in the bars and stem is more noticeable because the heavier bike has more inertia, especially when loaded. I’d stick with 31.8mm bars and stem (assuming it’s got a 1-1/8” steerer) because 25.4mm bars will feel very flexy.

Would be good to find a cycle map with cargo-bike unfriendly markings
Every time I go past, there's a car blocking the end of the bike lane. Navigable by bike (just) not on an Urban Arrow XL

So project 'big and belted, but light and fast' has begun!
The Omnium is ordered.
Well...'light' within the confines of a hub geared cargo bike...so still bloody heavy really. :) -

Full cargo or a mini maxi ? Ti ?
My Ti Mini maxi, is just under 15 kg and that's with about 1kg in inner tubes on the cargo deck.

• #4244
Full cargo ti, so a light starting point, but then an alfine 8 hub gear... So I'll be saving weight everywhere else to balance it out.
-
• #4245
I'll be making my own bag of some description, so that's going to add a chunk of weight too.

Seen that new Norwegian igh? Think it's quite light?

The Kindernay... I mentioned it further up the thread. It's not belt drive compatible yet though, and still about the same price as a Rohloff. :(

Will be great in summer to save sweaty back.

Why the hub gears, out of interest?
-
• #4250
Changing gears at the lights sounds handy, esp with heavy cargo
Only one gear works on my cargo at the moment, its not ideal
