Nice haul.

Prep on the Top Force started tonight.
The chassis plates and shock towers are pressed from FRP and not milled, so the edges are all jagged along the snap line. A tiny file sorted it all out before I deal the edge with either wax or superglue.
The grey edge is a bit shit looking, so I’ve tried using a sharpie on a spot to see how it looks, I think it will work fine.

Very pleased. Have asked in the other place, but no answer yet, is it ok to solder the esc wires straight to the motor? Got some tiny bullet connectors with the motor, but no mention of them in the instructions.
-
• #705
Yeah, it’s fine, I’ve done it several times.

Cool, ta. Just confused by the little bullet connectors, they do slot into the ports/terminals on the end bell of the motor.
-

Ahhhh, in which case do solder on the connectors. They plug in making it easier to remove or change the motor

Huh. So it turns out the Hitec servo I have won't accept the stock Tamiya servo horns.
This is like when you've bought a English thread BB for your Italian threaded frame, right?

Oh yeah, they have different number of teeth, becuase, well just because. The kits usually come with a few versions of adapter for the horns/saver. Hitec appears to be 24teeth for some reason, id forgotten about this

Things that are mildly irking you today

Yeah. Two of which will go on the servo but neither will work, as a little drive around the house uncovered. Sad face. ☹️ 😔 😞 😢 😭
Nice haul there!

I forgot this and also ordered a hitec servo.... sigh

Nice. Also found this which looks like some kind of adapter for the Tamiya saver. Ordered one because I think the Egress is picky about the angle of the steering arm.

Tedious job of the day, (after yesterdays taking a sharpie to the edges of the chassis plates to turn them black...) sanding diff plates!!
Idea is to provide a little more traction for the balls, and to flatten our the thruat plates, making the whole thing more efficient and hopefully longer lasting.
Wet and dry paper, a magnet and a flat surface. Easy peasy.

Now that is taking it to the nth degree.
You got over your Sharpie high yet? It was the ps paint that sent me a bit peculiar. -

Grrrrrr! Would appear when my 201 does arrive, it may be a shelf ornament for a while. The little plastic posts mounting the servo to the chassis appear to be MIA, and can't seem to find em on sale anywhere. May have to find someone to take measurements and get some 3d printed, or just glue the servo down!

Been watching this thread for a while and getting sorely tempted to get a car/buggy.
No prior rc car experience except a cheap monster truck style one from Beatties that broke pretty often when I was hmmm, 6-7ish?
Been watching some youtube vids and stuff too and I'm at the point of wondering whether I go for a WLtoys A959(B) or get a pucker Tamiya something or other off ebay.
Most of the used Tamiya stuff on ebay thats in my budget seems to be missing some parts so not sure if I'll be out of my depth trying to fix it up. Might be half the fun though.
The WLtoys stuff does seem pretty robust, is Tamiya stuff equally so?

The cheaper stuff is as its made for bashing around. But its all pretty much the same plastic really.
Big thing is if you want a kit to
Build or an RTR to just turn on and go? To build get a Tamiya, as an RTR then anything is good tbh. The tamiya XB series are nice and brands like maverick/absima/arrma are cheap no fuss cars and trucks that will take a beating. -
• #723
A kit would be really nice but given my attention span I’m not wanting to spend ‘new Tamiya’ money. I imagine that a second hand Tamiya from eBay could easily become just as spendy as a new one though.
